11 women to Keys in May

We have our airfare and our convertibles. need recommendations on where to stay in Key Largo and Key West. Thanks

Is there any type of lodging you are looking for? Do you have a budget?

GoTravel Feb 20th, 2007 10:44 AM

Unless you are diving, I'd skip Key Largo and head right to Key West.

There really isn't any nightlife or much to do after 8PM.

SusanCS Feb 20th, 2007 10:45 AM

In Key West you might look into the Hyatt Sunset Harbor. It's a timeshare and is in a perfect location on the Gulf just next to Mallory Square. The Galleon is also a timeshare right down the street (also on the Gulf) but the second bedrooms in it are quite small, so it may not be as comfortable. Depending on how long you're going to be there - if it's at least a week - you could rent a condo in Truman Annex. Still another idea is to rent something through At Home in Key West - I've never used them, but have read great reviews of them and their vacation rentals.

NoName - not really expensive. Some suggestions have been Banyan, LaConcha and Southernmost Hotel. We will only be there a couple days.

GoTravel Feb 20th, 2007 11:04 AM

The Banyan Resort of the three you listed, would be my first pick. I haven't been inside but the grounds are gorgeous.

SusanCS Feb 20th, 2007 06:17 PM

I agree with GoTravel about the Banyon. The grounds are fabulous, but the one time we got to see some of the interior units, we were less than impressed. However, the location is great...especially compared to the La Concha and Southernmost Hotel. I've heard the rooms at La Concha are very small at best, and though the Southernmost gets good reviews, it's on the Atlantic side of the island rather than the Gulf, where the sunset celebrations and most tourist activites are.

Of those three choices, I'd opt for the Banyon. No matter what you do, good luck! I hope you have a great time!

I think the Marquesa hotel is the nicest in key west. It may be a little hard to get 11 people into though. I would agree that at most you should spend a day in key largo. It really is a sporting island (fishing, snorkeling, diving).

YOU REPLIED TO MY POST ABOUT OUR 50TH BIRTHDAY IN FLORIDA. YOU SAID YOU WERE GOING TO TELL ME WHAT YOU LADIES HAD DECIDED TO DO BUT NOTHING CAME OUT AFTER THAT. WHAT DID YOU ALL DECIDE TO DO? HAVE FUN WHATEVER YOU DECIDE!!!!

10 of you is probably a couple too many, but the The Jasmine House whas a three bedroom suite (with huge deck and hottub), and a one bedroom suite upstairs.

My browser went wanky, couldn;t finish that post. http://www.keywestjasminehouse.com/index.html

I stayed there in December and loved it. My girlfirend is planning to go back with some of her girlfriends.

What are your dates?
What is your price range?
What are the sleeping arrangements?

Then you get suggestions.

La Concha might be fun because you will be staying on Duval Street and in the thick of things.

islandgirl97 Feb 21st, 2007 11:24 AM

To pjk - we're going May 16th into Miami, out of Miami the 20th. Sleeping arrangements are whatever. could be 4 to a room. we're just there to lay our heads down and night and get up and get moving in the morning! Try to keep it affordable - more money for partying! ONly turn 50 once!

islandgirl97 Feb 21st, 2007 11:25 AM

to dengentrysim: haven't booked the hotel yet. will keep you posted!

GoTravel Feb 21st, 2007 11:56 AM

Since you are only going for four nights and are going to party, definitely skip Key Largo and drive straight to Key West.

What time does your plane land in Miami?

Peter_krynicki Feb 22nd, 2007 06:42 AM

Just for reference...Duval Street, the main drag, is 1.25 miles long (13 blocks) and roughly runs north to south with the best things at the northern end. One block to the west is Whitehead and one to the east is Simonton. Petronia, a cross street, roughly bi-sects Duval.

11 people is tough but here are two starters... Papa's Hideaway is a group of suites on Louisa Street - about 2 blocks off Duval to the east and 2 or 3 blocks south of Petronia...

And the Southrnmost Hotel & Resorts - a group of places at the southrn end of Duval and South Streets...

Staying at the southern end is a little cheaper and is still within walking distance of Old Town, the Mallory Docks and the Key West Bight.

(FWIW...There is a get-together at the Rum Barrel, 2nd floor, on Front Street on the 19th of May at 8:00)

dgentrysim, we booked at simonton. does require a 3 night minimum and 2 night deposit upon booking. it was the overall favorite.

emmynick Feb 25th, 2007 02:05 PM

I'd suggest the Key West Bed and Breakfast. We've stayed there in the past with large groups and absolutely loved it. It's close to everything, but far enough away that when you leave the insanity from Duval, you really leave it.

Or, try renting a home. We've done this in the past and really enjoyed it, as well. We've used these folks a couple different times and have always been very pleased. http://www.trecorentals.com/
