10th Anniversary 4 day getaway..where to go in August?

My husband and I are leaving our 4 kids (under age of 6) for a MUCH-NEEDED break!! Our 10th anniversary is in August, and although we'd love to just lay on a beach or near a pool bar, we don't want to deal with hurricaine season. He would love to stay in a cabana type place, right on the ocean. I don't really care, as long as it's relaxing, and preferably...no kids!! :0) We'd prefer to not spend too much time traveling, as the key here is to relax. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I've procrastinated getting this planned! Thanks.

Where are you coming from?

If you don't want to spend a lot of time traveling then you better tell us where you live.

I forgot to mention that we're traveling from Indiana.

I think to get to an ocean from Indiana you will be stuck traveling a far distance.

Head to Southern California...no hurricanes and August weather is great.

San Diego has cabana style hotels that sit on Mission Bay.

Otherwise check out La Jolla (a village in SD), Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, or Santa Barbara

Thanks for your reply saps. I'd thought about San Diego. I've never been to California. I honestly don't care if I'm at the ocean, or a resort with great pools. The only place closer that I thought of was Vegas, but it's so hot in August, I thought I could get better suggestions.

I'm biased because I lived there for 5 years (I'm now in the SF area) but San Diego is great. The weather is almost always perfect in August. Warm at the beach, low humidity, cool in the evening. The beaches are clean, easy to access, and generally safe (not a lot of huge rip tides).

If you think you might want to go to SD then do a search using the search function because there have been about a dozen SD threads over the past week with lots of great info about dining, hotels, trip ideas.

Thanks...I'll check into them.

Could you tell me the name of the hotels that were Cabana style, please? Have you stayed at any of them?

There are a few (don't remember all the names) but one is

I have not stayed there (Only been to a wedding there ). Tripadvisor reviews are mixed.

I'm sure some other folks will have some ideas.
