100 Great Things To Do in NYC
A while ago, there were some great threads on the Europe forum about 100 Great Things To Do in ___ (Paris, London, Rome, etc). Has there been one of those here on the US forum? I'm going to NYC in a few months and a list like that would be great.

OK, I'll start:

1. Take the Staten Island Ferry to the Statue of Liberty
2. Visit the Empire State Building
3. See a Broadway Play (or several)
4. Visit the World Trade Center
5. Shop in Dean & DeLuca's grocery store in Soho

OK, over to you . . .

Yes, it has been done before. Many of those posts were started by "RQF". They didn't seem to get much interest...

If you are GOING to NY, rather than live here, where did your 5 come from ? If you are really looking for suggestions, you will get more helpful responses if you ask for particular things such as unusal museums, neighborhoods to visit for food/shopping, etc...
(and as for #1 on your list, you can't take the Staten Island Ferry TO the Statue of Liberty; there is a separate paid, long-lined boat for that, The Steten Island Ferry is the cheapest, fastest, easiest way to have a good water view of the statue without the hassles of going to it)

Sorry to be redundant but I did a search and nothing came up. I was hoping some New Yorkers would want to showcase their city not insult people for lack of knowledge.

One word:
Walk!

We were there for our first trip 3 yrs ago, May. We stayed at The Wellington @ 7th Ave/56th St next to Carnegie Hall/Deli.

We got up early Sun. morning and took a cab down to catch the ferry to St of Lib/Ellis Isl. It was great.

When we returned to shore, since it was a beautiful spring day, we chose to walk all the way back to the hotel.

We hadda blast meandering thru lower and mid-town Manhattan on the way back.
Yes, we looked like tourists when we walked below the World Trade Centers and Emp St Bldg. but het, who cares!? It was our first trip.

I wish we had a nickel for everytime we said "THERE'S (fill in the blank)" !

"Urban Backpacking".

Zig-zagged back and forth thru the diff. portions of town. Diff smells, sights, languages.
Took us over 4hrs to walk back but it was worth every blister and corn we got.

Can't wait to go back.
Kal
ps The Empire Stae Bldg at night was awsome!

Nice try, inquiring, but that's not the way it works here. See, you ask a question and then everybody jumps all over you and tries to make you feel like an idiot. It's the Fodors.com way, but here's a couple of suggestions anyway:

1. Take the Circle Line cruise around Manhattan.
2. Go to a Yankee Game.
3. Take a subway to Coney Island and ride the Cyclone.
4. Take a carriage ride through Central Park.
5. Visit St. Patrick's Cathedral.

If you do #5 be sure to light a candle for the misfits on this board.
