Hi,
I live in southern Maine. You'll have a wonderful time during your ten days. Since you have 10 days, you might enjoy stopping in many of the coastal towns. Driving up route 1.... Bath,Camden, Rockland, Boothbay Harbor (don't miss the Coastal Botanical Gardens)Belfast,...most of them have something interesting to see. If you like maritime history, Bath has a nice Maritime museum. If you like hiking, Camden has Battie Mountain (about an hour hike) with a lovely view of the harbor. You can also take a sailing cruise from Camden, or Boothbay Harbor. Strolling around the towns is an interesting pastime in itself. If you're a shopper, Freeport is famous for LL Bean and other outlets. You'll love Bar Harbor and Acadia. That's your safest bet for biking, too. Ride the carriage trails for beauty and safety. And there are many, many trails with great views. Unfortunately, you'll have to share the road with autos most other times when biking, and believe me, I've done it... it's a bit tense. Don't forget Schoodic Point in Acadia. If you have time....south of Portland is Kennebunkport, Ogunquit, and York. I don't think at that time of year, you'll have too much trouble finding accommodations.
