10 day trip to California
 

I am planning a trip to California with my husband from 3 July to 13 July . I have already booked the flight tickets to Sacramento. Can anybody help me out in planning the trip like where to stay , what all to see , places for eating Vegetarian food and any other advice . I will be renting car for 10 days .

That's a really wide open question. If you are in Sacto - you might consider driving up to beautiful Lake Tahoe - and then down 395 to go into Yosemite from the "back way" - up the majestic Tioga pass.

As far as veggie places to eat/find in local stores - all over California.

No one can possibly answer that. Why did YOU decide to come to California? What sorts of things do you want to see/do? You could spend the whole time in the mountains/Tahoe/Yosemite (but getting accommodations in YNP will be tough). Or all on the coast. Or a couple of days in Sacramento and the rest in the foothills/mountains. Or SF and the redwoods. Your choices are limitless. What research have you done?

Can't help you w/ where to stay until after you pick an itinerary and give us your budget.

Besides Sacramento, do you have any idea where you want to go? Is this a city tour? San Francisco? Los Angeles? Or you want to see the state and national parks? Or what?

The place you can stay where you can cook your own vegetarian meal is the HI Hostel at the corner of 10th & H in Sacramento. It is the second oldest Victorian mansion in the city.
If you didn't want to rent the car at the airport, you can get to downtown by riding the Yolo bus and renting downtown.
Of all the hostels I have stayed in (many), the Sacramento HI hostel is my favorite so far.

Assuming you will fly home from Sacramento, here is one possible itinerary: Napa and Sonoma Valley, San Francisco, Monterey, Highway 1 as far as Santa Monica, LA for museums or nearby theme parks, Yosemite NP, Historic Highway 49, Sacramento.

California is vegetarian friendly. Just do what you do when you eat out at home and shop at grocery stores for picnic supplies.

htty's itinerary is nice, but quite ambitious for just 10 days.

Plus there are many scenic wine regions other than Napa/Sonoma (If you are even interested in vineyards - we don't know til you tell us more about yourselves/what you enjoy)

Thank you for the replies everyone. I want to see some places like San Juan Islands,Olympic National park,Cannon park, Florence,Redwood National park,Folsom (to visit a friend). Since, I will be visiting all these places, i want to know if any places nearby are worth seeing. With Restaurants , i mean to ask that if any famous restaurants in the near by areas of these places.

Whoa . . . you don'r have enough time for the San Juans, Olympic Nat'l Park, Florence (assuming you mean the one in Oregon), the Redwoods. Not sure what you mean by 'Cannon Park' - by any chance did you mean Cannon Beach, Oregon?? etc etc

Your OP and title only mention California and now we have Washington and Oregon. That isn't a 10 day trip - especially flying in/out of Sacramento.

First thing you need to do is get a good map . . . to see how far apart these places are.

Janis is right on. If you are going in/out of Sacramento, then Oregon and Washington are best saved for another trip.

Amador Valley has great winers - not far from Sacramento which has a great art museum downtown...Old town and the train museum are there as well., Tahoe if you like mts. - 1.5 hrs from sacramento... Napa, Sonoma, dry creek if you are interested in wine country too. Bear Valley for trees(closer to Sacramento than SF) or Muir Woods outside of SF across Golden Gate Bridge. Muir woods could be combined with Sonoma Dry Creek wineries....In 10 days I would hang close to SF and perhaps Monterey. I doubt if you could get reservations in Yosemite at this late date.

Those aren't even in California. They are near Seattle, Washington.
