10 Day New England Trip

My husband and I are planning a trip this fall to New England. It's going to be a 10-day trip, including flying in and out. We'd like to stay at B&Bs to experience the local lifestyle and see the autumn leaves.
What is the best route for the trip? Where should we visit?
Please advise.

You can get some good information and there's a B&B locator at Yankee Magazine's website www.newengland.com and be sure to make your reservations soon. Check fares for MHT (Manchester NH) and Providence RI. They should be comparable to Boston/Logan but are much smaller and easier to use. Even if you intend to visit Boston I think you'll be much happier with the other airports. Vermont scenery has a lot of rolling green hills. NH is very craggy around the White Mountains. Western Mass is nice but I don't think it's quite as dramatically beautiful as VT and NH. Portsmouth NH has some foliage cruises and it's a great place to visit. Hope you have a great trip.

Start booking now... rooms will soon be hard to come by.
Consider flying in/out of either Portland, Maine or Manchester, NH.
Woodstock, Vermont is lovely; Lincoln to Bretton Woods and North Conway all in New Hampshire would be beautiful; and Camden, Maine would make a great coastal destination.
You'll get the best airfares flying in and out of Providence or Manchester. In fact, if you can get a decent rate on a one-way car rental from National or Avis, the best bet would be flying INTO Providence and out of Manchester.

Spend the first night in Rhode Island, then, since it's fall and the crowds are gone, two or three nights at Cape Cod. Drive up to Maine and stay at the Inn by the Sea at Cape Elizabeth for a couple of nights, then cut west through the mountains to New Hampshire , ending in the lakes region for a couple of nights.
