1 night in Vegas
My mother (50ish) and I are flying into Vegas and staying at the Luxor for one night. We are renting a car and going to drive to the Hoover dam and Grand Canyon for the next 3 nights. I was wondering what is the absolute "must sees" of Vegas. Anything would be a help. Thanks all.

What a dummy! I left out a important piece of info. We are arriving in Vegas around 1 oclock. Sorry for that.

If you only have one night, don't stay at the Luxor. Stay mid-Strip at some place like Bally's and check out Bellagio, Venetian, Wynn, etc. You won't have a problem figuring out what to do if you stay in the right location.

I agree with Happy Trails. Mid strip would be much better for a one nighter. I liked my stay at Bally's (it's connected to Paris) and the Flamingo would be another option in similar price range. I'm 50 ish myself. :-)

"Must See's"?
Bellagio Fountain Show. Bellagio Conservatory. Eagle-eyed view of Vegas from either the Stratosphere, Voodoo Lounge at the Rio, top of the Palms, or at Mix on top of Mandalay Bay. Go at twilight - just after sunset to watch the neon and lights come up in Vegas. You may want to check the Fremont Street Experience downtown. I'd also recommend a show - one of the Cirque du Soleil shows like 'O' or Mystere. Lastly, walk the strip and casino hop. Wear comfortable shoes and take your time. |
agree with above...drop the luxor and stay mid strip. with only one night, you'll appreciate being within walking distance of much more.

The Luxor is fine - just don't miss a ride in their "inclinators" . You'll be in between Mandalay Bay and the Excalibur and across the street from MGM - you're on the south end of the strip for sure but with comfortable shoes (or a rental car or cab ride) you can see the rest of the strip.
The Bellagio fountains are a must - make dinner reservations at Olives at the Bellagio and ask for a window seat. Or eat at the street side cafe at the Paris Hotel across the street to see the show while dining. There are 5 Cirque du Soleil shows to choose from - Mystere being the oldest and the Beatles show at the Mirage is the newest. There's also Ka, O and the one at NY, NY (I think) which is pretty risque.... There's La Reve at the Wynn (which you have to see during the day - the hotel just glistens a beautiful copper in the sunlight). If you're into shopping - there's the Forum Shops at Caesar's, the Fashion Place Mall and the shops at the Venetian (with strolling minstrels). |
Agree with Kathi above--don't stress about the Luxor location if you have a car. Just drive over to Caesar's and park in their (free) structure, then walk around from there. Plenty to see just strolling around.
