1 night/1 day in NYC

As unjust as it is for NYC, my wife and I will be spending 1 night/1 day in NYC in 2 weeks time. Any suggestions for tours, venues, and restaurants for such a short time?

Thanks Federal for suggestions and advice. Does anyone know what is the most economical way of getting from Marriott-airport to NYC central?

To Federal and others...I checked out Grayline tours and discovered that the Manhatten Comprehensive tour lasts 8 1/2 hours. Since we must catch our flight out at 6:00 pm, this tour will make our timing extremely tight. Any other tour (or tour company) suggestions. If you were to list 5 things to see in NYC, what would they be?

I think it depends on your age & how much you want to walk. A moderate day might be:

take the downtown loop on the grayline as suggested. Depending on what time you start, you might get out in Greenwich village & have lunch. Then continue on & get out at Battery Park (I think!) & take the free ferry roundtrip to Staten Island & back for a view of the Statue of Liberty.

Get back on the bus to the end.
Go to the top of the Empire State (may be an option to include this in price of grayline tour) for dusk.

Have dinner someplace with a view-The River Cafe in Brooklyn, the Water Club, Foley Fish House at the Renaissance Hotel in Times Square are a few options.

Thanks Guys/Girls for your feedback. It looks like the loop tour (which is 3 hrs.) and some memorable sights such as Statue of Liberty, Battery Park, Empire Bldg. and monument at WTC. Also, moments of just gazing, watching the people flow.

Tierom,

The grayline double decker loop tours are excellent. I have done them several times when in NYC with family or friends. Since you probably only have time for one, the Lower Manhattan loop is the best bet. If you stay on the bus it shouldn't take more than about 3 hours.
