1 day in ALB/Sante Fe - what to do
I'm hoping someone will see this today. Just found out we will be spending 1 day in ALB tomorrow (arriving tonite late). We've rented an SUV and were planning on driving to Santa Fe. That's as far as we've gotten. We need to be back in ALB by 8pm. Any ideas?

In ABQ - I enjoy Old Town for shopping and some of the restaurants. Church Street Cafe and La Crepe Michel are my two favorite restaurants in the area. If it isn't too late, I do like going up on Sandia Peak to go for a walk. There is also a restaurant that you can access via the Tram. It was good but not good enough to make a special trek up to it. In Old Town, the Ghost Tour was lots of fun. http://www.sgha.net/nmgt/nmgtfaq.html
BE SURE to ask for the chile sauce on the side if you aren't used to spicy food! I THOUGHT I was, and boy, was I mistaken at a few places! In SF - I enjoy visiting all the artists studios and museums. |
Oh, not far out of ABQ is Acoma Pueblo. It is worth a visit.

Hi moldyhotelsaregross...
Thanks for the suggestions. For some reason, dh doesn't want to do anything in ABQ. Is visiting Acoma Pueblo & Santa Fe doable in a day? Thanks for the pointer on the chili sauce - I wouldn't have thought to ask for it that way :) |
We did a "quick" guided tour of Acoma - I'd guess about 2 hours. I understand that there are other pueblos in the area that are worth visiting too, but I don't know what they are. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes as you will be walking on some rocks at Acoma. Also, I've heard of some cliffs that have cave drawings on them. Check out a tour book for them.
If I remember correctly, we did both the pueblo and touring SF in a day. I've never seen SF as much as I'd like, but always get a good taste from our day trips from ABQ while there for Balloon Fiesta. If you are a silver lover, you could be there for days and not have sufficient time! Sorry I don't remember enough specifics about SF, we always hop out of the car and go wander down a new street! Most of our time is spent in ABQ. If your time is limited, I'd skip the pueblo and head directly to Santa Fe. |
Acoma Pueblo is about 45 minutes west of Albuqerque. You could do it if you get up early, but you have to drive back through Albuquerque to go to Santa Fe.
Maybe a better choice would be to get up early, drive up to Taos Pueblo (two hours from Albuquerque), take a tour there, then drive back to Santa Fe and explore a bit before heading back to Albuquerque. Lee Ann |
