Freaky Friday Rants and Raves 9-15-06

Rave: I found the G spot on my computer. A few days ago it started making an odd high pitched noise. I started pushing areas on the CPU and found a spot on the front of the top where I pressed down and it stopped making the noise. Well maybe I should call it the anti-G spot. Anyway I'm happy.

Rave: Lost four pounds, and one inch in the past month. long way to go although.

Rant: I bought an item on ebay from a man from England who put the wrong address on the package which did not arrive because he insisted that the name of my road could not be called Hollow, it has to be Hallow he claims. aargh. I asked him to look it up in the dictionary. It means valley, and some roads are named after valleys. This spelling bee king also got on my back for making a simple spelling mistake. I ca'nt spelled so to good soe get off my bak!

Jorr - LMAO I live with a spelling king -- not!!!

Rave: We leave for Maine tomorrow - coming from Oklahoma, the mid 70's sound awesome and cool!

Rave: We almost had to cancel our trip but DH's work conflicts disappeared.

Rave: I am a liason for an exchange student from Iceland this year. We just got home from taking her and her roomate from Ghana out to dinner. I love hearing about different cultures from people with experience.

No rants tonight!

Congrats on the weight loss Jorr. Go go go!!

I've got a major rant I can't wait to get off my chest. Yesterday around 7:30 AM our cable went out, which means no Internet, no TV and no phones (digital phones). I used my cell to call Time Warner to report the outage. Got the typical press 1, press 2 etc, never getting a live person. Seems the outage had already been reported and they "asked" if I wanted to be notified when the system was back up. I did, and input our home phone number to do it. At noon, I got a call...but it wasn't them calling to say the system was up, but a friend. Oh well, things happen, I thought. Well...we did get a call, but guess when????!!! 4:30 in the morning this morning our phone rings, sending us bolt upright on the floor of our bedroom. It is Time Warner telling us the system is back up (although it had been for 16 hours.) Our daughter is pregnant...is she in labor??? Is one of our brothers' sick??? An accident??? Neither of us went back to sleep for the next hour and then it was time to get up anyway.

I called them today. We got a $2.10 credit for the system being down for half a day and an apology for an apparent glitch. Big deal...what about the pain and suffering of the moment wondering who was sick/dying/delivering??

This bugs me even more because with my DH in the hotel business, and me active here and lurking on some other travel related boards, I hear almost daily about the petty things people expect full reimbursement for when the most minute thing goes wrong in a hotel stay. Geez louise...the hotel industry has brought this on themselves by giving away the store for the least little thing! I could never work in it! Here's $2.10 for your discomfort now get on with life. LOL

Rave:

Being an American:

I eat big meals

(while 685 third world children starve to death during my dinner hour and every hour).

I sleep in a soft bed with lots of pillows

(while the homeless gather cardboard for their sidewalk beds).

I drive a large SUV – just me in my 5,000lb. vehicle

(while carbon dioxide emissions cause global warming to ruin the earth).

And when I die and get to the Heavenly Gates, I know I’ll have a FastPass to get in – just like at Disney World – while everyone else waits in the stand-by line.

It’s great to be an American!

00, I would have went through the roof. I got a bad news phone call in the middle of the night once. I have never been the same since then at night. I can not believe they could be that stupid.

woo hoo, $2.10!! Did you tell them where to put that money?? heee heeeee.

Rant: I am so stressed out, crazy busy with this weekend's activities for the Aloha Festivals. www.alohafestivals.com

It will be a busy week/weekend for me, which means an erratic running schedule.

Rave: I hope this translates into success for our tenants at Aloha Tower Marketplace.

Rave: After this is a slow period, so
Double Rave: I can go to Chicago next Friday, worry free. And from there, I go to Paris.

Rave: Our new mall owner understands why I "need" to go to Paris.

Rave: My boss is out dog-mushing in Alaska.

Totally travel related, if the hall monitor is watching.

Rant: My husband gets to travel to England on a business trip in October and will be leaving me behind to care for our 4 yr old alone for a week. I was so ticked I asked our son if he wanted to go to Disneyworld for our trip while Dad's on his trip. But DH gets huffy and says, "you can't take him to Disneyworld without me!" Oh, but you can go to England without us?? Anyway, nice to rant.

Rave: I have decided to go on a trip of our own while he is gone, perhaps to New Orleans...not to Disney...I would be punishing myself to take him without dad to help out! But son decided he wants to go to Washington...the state. A far piece from Memphis. He won't know the difference, so maybe I'll tell him we are going the Wash. and just go somewhere closer (and cheaper) instead!

Rave: Leaving this weekend for a quick trip to Vegas followed by a glorious week on the Big Island!

Rave: I am 6 weeks pregnant with our first baby!

Rant: No pina coladas for me. It's papaya juice on ice!

Jorr, way to go on the weight loss!

Congratulations, Alisa!

Rave: At the last minute, I entered the NM State Fair bread contest (after skipping last year) and won second place for my whole wheat bread.

Rave: Ds had his cast removed yesterday; now to learn to catch, throw, and bat all over again.

Rave: Oldest dd and her husband have new jobs which pay more and have benefits.

No rants at the moment!

Rave: the daughter of my college roommate spent the last week with us, and it got us out and about enjoying our island...beach time, circle island tour, hanauma bay, introducing her to all kinds of ethnic foods, teaching her to surf. The weather was wonderful, and I got the best tan I've had in years!

Rant:
My college senior daughter bought a dog! What is she thinking? She lives in a campus apt, will be moving to Manhattan in January, and we live in Hawaii with all the red tape and testing required to bring in a dog, not to mention the expense!!

Rave: He is an adorable little rat terrier puppy! I can understand why she fell for him, but a dog when you're living in a dorm??? Education does not always equal smarts....

Rave: I've got 4 trips in the planning stages- Boston GTG, Thanksgiving in Idaho, Christmas in Cambodia, and June wedding in San Diego. Life is Good!

Rant: Just missed getting $280 ROUND TRIP tix to Australia this afternoon! Thanks for the heads up, Melissa, but I was too slow!

Wishing for good health and good humor to all fodorites this week...

Congrats Jorr & Alisa for your good news!

OO - I just moved and have been having a heck of a time with several utilities companies so I can completely relate to what you went through. In fact, I have to call the gas company again for the 7th time in 2 months today because not only did we get our neighbor's gas bill again, but we now have ours too. *sigh*

Rave: the rain has stopped and this weekend is going to be beautiful.

Rave: My twin 9 year old nephews are staying over here tonight. (They're cute but double trouble!) We are getting up early and walking with my pup in our local Humane Society's fundraiser.

Rave: At the same H.S. Animal Festival, the pup is being entered in three contests - 1) the longest tail wag, 2) the longest kiss, and 3) the costume contest. I think we have a really good chance of winning too - my licking, wagging pup has an Elvis costume! Wish us luck!

Rave: going on vacation in a few weeks!

No major rants really, other than I wish I had a smaller butt, more money, and more time.

Hugs to all & have a good weekend!

Happy Friday to all!

Half a rant: I have not been able to pin down a destination for our next vacation! I feel lost without active travel-planning. I want to go to Alaska, DD wants to go to Italy, DH thinks we should skip a year but he could go to Argentina. Mexico seems a good, semi-affordable option....I'm dying to go to Glacier NP...I want to go to Machu Picchu...DD and me want to go to NYC but DH hates cities.

Major Rave: We will figure it out. Everyone is happy and healthy.

Way to go Jorr on losing a few!

Congrats Alisa—children are a wonderful thing.

Rave: Finished my Cambridge, England trip report! http://tinyurl.com/kag6j

Rave: Was awarded (by mail yesterday) an unrestricted $300 travel voucher from United!!! Thee video monitor was broken on our flight back from England last month. My 2 year old could have cared less about it anyway—what a nice surprise!

Rave: Got to go shopping with the girls last night—and remembered I had a credit at my favorite store. Bonus!.

Rant: Skinny jeans make me look anything but. In fact, I think skinny jeans should come with a warning that says:

CAUTION—skinny jeans should not be worn by anyone who is over 21, weighs more than 100 lbs, has given birth, or is remotely athletic. Skinny jeans may also prohibit your ability to breathe or walk and wearers are advised not to attempt any activities that require mobility when wearing. Those over 35 especially are urged to refrain from breathing more than 5 times per hour when wearing skinny jeans. DO NOT attempt any aerobic activities when wearing skinny jeans, such as bending down or speed-walking. Wear at your own risk.

Rave: Thumb is better and I am off the pain-killers, so the hyperactive me is back with tons of projects this weekend, one of which includes removing a tree in our front yard. It is supposed to be 80 and sunny, perfect!

Rant: My above rave is my DH’s RANT.

Have a sunny weekend everyone!!!!!

StephCar, not really exactly true about the skinny jeans. I love them so much in fact, I've bought two pair!

I think you just need to try several pair on, remember, everyone hated boot cut in the begining.

I'm also over 21 and over 100 pounds!

I wore them last night to a casual cocktail party and got lots of compliments.

Rave: My sister (3 years older) had her final breast cancer surgery this week and it went really well. She's had 4 outpatient and 3 long involved surgeries in the past year. Whew!!

Rave: She's considered to be completely cancer free and is having no chemo or radiation, just hormone therapy.

Rave: My very first GTG is tonight in Chicago!

Rave: Spending the night at DS's new appartment in Evanston - he just graduated and loves his new job.

Rave: Other DS is coming with us - almost a family reunion!

Rave: DH is getting better and better. I think we're finally out of the woods.

Rave: My 25th wedding anniversary is next week Tuesday, and yes I married at 16.

No Rants this week - the rain finally stopped and the weekend is supposed to be beautiful.
