I have some questions for the Tenament Museum tour. We will go in October.

There are many tours it seems. Do I pay for each? Which ones are best?


We are staying at the Lucerne Hotel 79th and Amsterdam I think. So what is the best way to go...via bus? subway?

I would go on line and look at the various tours to see which one is to your liking. Not all tours are offered every day.

Yes, each tour is a separate fee.

The simplest way is to go to the 81St and Cnetral Park West Station. Take the "B" train all the way to Grand Street. And then it is a about 5 block walk.

Yes, you have to pay for each tour if you decide to take more than one. I don't think any one tour is the "best" - each tour has a brief description and you can choose whichever one seems to interest you most. We took the "getting by" tour a few months ago and we enjoyed it.

If you take more than 1 tour on the same day, I believe you can get a discount off the price. There's info on the museum's website.

I recommend booking the tour in advance online, if you're going on a weekend.

I went on a tour last May. Took the subway from my hotel up near the Lucerne, then walked to the sales office. I just signed up for the next tour, rather than waiting for a particular one. I forget the actual name of the tour, but it was about home based businesses. We entered several apartments that were furnished in the style of different eras, and heard the story of the last family that lived there, along with general history of the whole neighborhood.

I found the original furnishings and unrestored condition of the apartments the most fascinating part, so I would guess that all the tours, no matter the theme, will be well worth the time.

The book shop and the film in the sales office were also worth the visit, There are several nice places to eat nearby in case you have to wait for your tour. I only had to wait 10 minutes or so, so I had a juice at a vegan cupcake shop around the corner.

After my tour, I walked back to Broadway through areas like Chinatown and little Italy. I found it facisinating to see how the neighborhoods merged into each other.

I think the tour lcuy took was the same one we took - called Piecing It Together. We thought it was fascinating.

Tours do sell out though, especially on weekends.
