What are the best wlking shoes for in city travel?
I've been using athletic shoes. My feet are sore and burning from hours of walking. I tried a few brands, it is the same.
Any shoes you can recommend for lots of city walking.

I wear hiking boots (Vasque, need the ankle support) unless it's really hot and the pavements are in good shape, in which case I wear Ecco sandals (and risk turning my ankle). But as janisj says, it's mostly a matter of personal preference and trial and error.

I wear either New Balance trail boots or shoes, Clarks Desert boots, or Bugatti sneakers, depending on the season and location.
As was said before, everyone's foot is different.

You say you are already using athletic shoes, so perhaps your socks are the issue? I have some low-cut hikers that are great for all day walking, but at least half of the reason is that I wear them with good wool socks. Smartwool is good, but Goodhew socks are even better.

There is no 'best' obviously but I would back up a step (pun intended)before asking which shoes anyone wants to suggest.
WHY are your feet sore is the question I would be looking for the answer to first. It might be the shoes you wear but if they are decent shoes it probably isn't.
It could be that you simply never do much walking in your normal day to day life and what you need to do is start walking more at home in order to get used to it.
It might be that you have a problem that only orthotic inserts in your shoes will solve.
Until you identify the real problem you cannot find a solution.

A repeat of what people have asked / stated above:
What shoes have you tried already, and why aren't they working? Need to determine the answer to those questions before other options are worth investigating.
I'm leaving the house right now to spend my REI dividend and discount on a new pair of hiking boots. There are several brands and models in the category I'm looking for that people rate highly, for example the Lowa Renegade GTX or the Salomon Quest GTX. The best one for me will be the one that fits me the best.
As for socks, I thought I'd taken a step (pun intended) closer to heaven the first time I tried on Darn Tough socks.

Darn Tough socks are the best, made in Vermont. I find that socks are just as important as the shoes.
Everyone's feet are so different that we can't advise you. Go to a really good shoe store, or dept like in Nordstroms where the clerks know their products well.

Saucony are the only sneakers I can wear, so my boots might work for you. However, I suspect your problem is your socks. You need more padding. I used to wear Thorlos, but developed an allergy to them for long term wear, and now wear Smart Wool on trips.
