Trip for 30th Birthday ideas

I am looking for ideas for a trip for my 30th Birthday in Sept. I may be going alone or with one or two people. I am thinking that I would like to stay somewhere in the US and take a trip for a long weekend (3-4 days). Any suggestions would be helpful.

This is too broad of a question. What are you interested in doing on your trip, e.g. visiting museums, enjoying nature and the outdoors, shopping, etc.?

Also, for such a short trip you'll want to minimize travel time. So where will you be travelling from?

I am from Minnesota and will be travelling from there. I guess on vacations I like to sightsee, shop a little, just see the area where I am at.

Some of my favorite weekend trips in the US are:
Urban-NYC, DC, Boston
Rural-Napa, Acadia NP, and this place: http://www.spottedbear.com/

Why don't you look at http://www.mominder.com/birthday_reminder, it tells you about notable people that share your birthday, you could maybe plan your trip around some famous people if they are relevant to where you live? It also lists historical events, maybe you could go visit somewhere like that?

San Francisco?
Seattle?
Los Angeles?
New York?
Chicago?
for the big cities...

or maybe something like a destination spa vacation in the southwest or California?

For my major decade birthday's i've done Europe or Hawaii myself, but with a short timeframe that's probably too far to go.

I agree with travelerfromtx, it depends upon you. If you just want to rest then Miami is a cool place for weekend trip.

Chicago is a great place to celebrate especially at that time of the year. There is so much to see,do,shop and eat that a long weekend would be very memorable for you. If you are single it is also a great place to meet lots of interesting people! Have fun-

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I am going to go out to SD and visit Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse, etc.
