Surviving the long flight - 25 hours

Hi, all my fellow travelers!
I have a long flight - 13 hours than 6 more hours from NYC to Bangkok. Any tipe on surviving such a long flight? So far on my list are sleeping mask, ear plugs, pillow, snacks, a book/movies, anything else I can bring to make me not hate my life? Thank you!

Sleeping pills, maybe? At least for the longer flight.

If you are the type who sleeps very deeply and don't wake at the slightest sound/touch, it may be a good idea to make absolutely certain your valuables (passport, money, Credit/debit cards etc) are kept somewhere safe while you sleep.

invest in Bose headphones. they block out all noise BUT they are expensive. we fly alot so it was worth it to us. also wear loose clothing and if you are a girl a NO WIRE bra. I wear s sleeping bra which is loose and comfortable....

Shar, on my last long haul flight...30 hours with stop overs and 3 legs I snuck my bra off to go to sleep on one leg. Good suggestion about the no wire!!

Pardon us for speaking of undies here, but that's a brilliant suggestion about switching out of the underwire to a sleeping bra. My trips are all overnighters and generally 20+ hours as well. How dumb I feel that I had never considered this and you're right - it must feel so much better as you TRY to get comfortable in coach. Thanks for this simple suggestion. I'll try it on my next trip in two weeks!

I take along warm fuzzy socks to put over my compression socks - otherwise my feet get cold and I can't rest. And sometimes the long haul in the seat makes my lower back a bit sore so I carry one of those self-heating patches to ease it up. Finally, take a face spritzer to keep your skin moist. I spritz at least once an hour and keep my chapstick fresh. A long flight in low humidity can add 5-10 years in a matter of hours.

good suggeswtions on the heat pack. I also put a bit of chapstick in my nose, using my finger, of course to help keep it moist. spritzing is a gret idea. You really do get dry on a plane. Don't ya just love being able to get all of these great ideas....

A sleeping bra is just a lighly structured bra that some women choose to wear at night instead of wearing nothing. It's meant to give you some support while not being constrictive, tight or wired. I suppose a "light control" sports bra would provide the same function if you wore it on the plane.

I wear a sports bra on long flights - I buy mine at Target, I think Champion brand. They are only about $15 each.

Another must-have for long flights is a pashmina or pashmina-type scarf. I use it as a blanket and/or head covering - make sure I have something soft and that I know where it has been to curl up with. Also, as a head covering, it gives just that little bit of privacy that makes me more comfortable sleeping in a room full of strangers.

Of course the books, magazines, eye masks, headphones - all good. I make sure I have toothbrush and toothpaste and those face cloths from Olay that have the cleanser in them already. Clean teeth and face do wonders for a person's outlook. And I don't like putting moisturizer on if I haven't just cleaned my face - I feel like I am trapping dirt into my pores, and I DEFINITELY want to moisturize during the flight.

I also bring some good chocolate with me on long flights. Trader Joes sells dark chocolate in a little metal tin, each piece is shaped like a wedge and just the right size for a bit of yummy goodness to make you feel less miserable.

Xanax or Valium. Earphones or earplugs. Definitely a change of clothes or at least a fresh top. Socks or slippers. Washcloth, water spritzer, moisturizer. And of course the usual books, magazines, snacks.

You got a pretty good list already. Have some gum, too. It helps a lot so that your ears won't hurt from all the change of pressure.
