return flight is not until midnight the day of check out ?
Is this normal and what would we do after the daytime check out....... we would have 10 hrs to kill, no food/no water etc
Booked with Sunquest to Dominican Punta Canta Thomas Cook Airlines down , 7 nights Dec 27 - Jan 3rd , but return flight is not leaving Dominican until almost midnight on the 3rd?
what do we do for 10 hours that day?
any advice would be greatly apprecited... email is in to SUNQUEST, I'm now realizing they should have explained to us what happens in this case our flight down is only 11hrs away
thanks

See if you can request a late checkout (closer to time of departure) from the hotel. Then at least you'll have somewhere to hangout, nap, shower, etc. It'll probably cost extra, but I've found that it's worth it.

No, this is not at all unusual! I once wrote a blog post about being a temporary homeless person - check out at 12:00, take a night train, check-in at 12:00 - same difference for planes.
Your hotel will hold your luggage - the trick is to stay cool and clean. Restaurants and museums (and I suppose even shopping malls) work well for that. If the airport has a lounge it may be worth paying for access if that's allowed - I'm flying biz class on my current trip and several of the lounges have had showers. Not to mention food and drink.

We had same situation on our trip to Dominican - could not get late check out as they needed to have rooms cleaned and ready for incoming passengers.
They were pleased to hold your luggage after check out - suggested you pack your bathing suit in your carry on and enjoy time at the pool before departure. There was one common "day room" for use of all those departing - last minute shower etc.
Our plane was also at midnight - transportation to airport left at 9pm. Make sure you have funds available to pay for any bar charges or snacks you may want....only breakfast was provided.
It did make for a long day.

I don't understand why you will have "no food/water"?
I never do packaged vacations, but often you have to check out of the hotel before Noon, with a flight not leaving until later in the afternoon or evening. Just check your luggage at the hotel front desk and go do something, take a tour, hang out at a different beach, go to different restaurants than you've been doing. Assuming you're flying out of Puerto Plata (?) you could spend some time seeing that town.

I agree with lsky & suze; count this day as part of your vaca & treat it as such. If you're a beach bum, scout out a shower location in advance (if your hotel has outdoor showers, you should be able to use them. Just ask nicely). If you don want to go to the beach, then donwhat you usually do on vaca--go to an interesting site, take a guided tour, go shopping, get your hair braided--it's just another day on vaca. After the sun goes down, find a good spot for a leisurely dinner out. Only bummer will be that your "date" will end with a trip to the airport instead of to your hotel room.
Have fun!
