Parking a Car in a Safe Spot
I will be in Kingston, RI, with my daughter for a week at Friend's General Conference. We'll have our computers, guitar and one bicycle. We have a friend in NYC - and would like to go into the city for a night or two. We could stay with her. However, I am leery about driving the car in, with the bike on the back, our camping gear, etc., in the car. Is this a safe thing to do? Or will I need to cart everything out of the car and into her apartment - including the bike - to make things safe? Will there be parking somewhere? I've not been to NYC before. There have been some good suggestions re: trains - but I can't leave the car with the bike, etc., parked at a station. Ideas?
Thanks...
Thanks...

I'm not sure how things are where you reside, but no matter where I am, I would never leave valuables in my vehicle and a bike on the rear overnight and expect said valuables and bike (or even, sometimes, the vehicle) to still be there in the morning.
Thefts happen in the best of neighborhoods, and think about this: you're not willing to leave your car with a bike at a train station, so why would you leave it on a NYC street or in a parking garage?
If you really want to visit your friend, be prepared to empty out the car, and take your things into the apartment.

No. You need to take everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING out of your car. Not just for New York City, but pretty much any urban environment.
I live in Seattle and we leave *nothing* in the car. Someone broke a window years ago to take a bakery box (pink tied with string) holding a cake, when I ran into my house for 20 mins on the way to a party.
