Last Minute Travel to Florence

I'm a 45 year old woman and never traveled to Europe alone; I've only been there once and that was on my honeymoon. The stresses of work, three teens and a failed relationship have me craving an adventure - and with 5 consecutive days off over the Thanksgiving holiday (almost unheard of in my business) I'm thinking of going to Florence. Any suggestions, particularly for places to stay, would be most appreciated. Thanks..Ruth

There's an old saying about not putting off till tomorrow what you can do today because you might like it and want to do it again. If I was you, I would certainly go. Local name for Florence is Firenze. Check a local travel agent there for a trip to nearby Pisa. Varied accommodation:

Book your entry to the Uffizi gallery online as the ticket queue tends to be very long. The other gallery across the river was no problem.

ruetravel, i see you are new here. welcome! and that you have posted this only on the Solo board and in the Lounge. These two get less readership.

Go to the Europe forum, and title the post "Hotel in Florence" and you will get many more replies.

It sounds like a lovely trip. I am not a big pre-planner and if I was doing what you are... I would simply buy my plane ticket and book a hotel. Buy one guidebook and read if on the plane ride over. Solo travel is about BEING there. Since you are on your own you can figure out each day as you go. It's easy, fun, and extremely freeing.

Florence is a great place for a solo trip. Hotel Casci is a nice little family run hotel in a great location. www.hotelcasci.com

www.caftours.com for excursions out of Florence. When I am traveling solo and have a craving for connecting with other travelers, I find a day trip a great way to go. There are also half day walking tours around town that you can take. Talk to your hotel people about finding one that works for you.

Have a GREAT time!

Ruth, did you book your trip? I will be there solo as well, so let me know if you would like to meet up somewhere. If you still need help with your hotel, let me know as well, as I can help on that also.
