Ideas for a father/son for a weekend festival trip

I am looking for a festival, preferably music, to go to with my adult son anywhere in the USA.

Milwaukee has festivals all summer long. Summerfest is late-June to early July--a very large music festival. www.summerfest.com

There's also German Fest, Festa Italiana, Fiesta Mexicana, Irish Fest (my favorite) and more.

You may get more feedback if you re-post this over on the United States board. It is a much more active forum and more people will see your question.

What time of the year?

What genre?

How far are you willing to travel?

Hotel or camping?

You know your musical tastes best, so here is a tip: Decide what style you like best, then do some Internet searching. With the results in hand, you can judge what area appeals. For instance, jazz springs back to life in the summer and there are festivals all over, starting with the biggest, in Montreal. For some reason, smaller centres have latched on to jazz, so there very likely could be a weekend in an area that you have other scenic or intellectual reasons to visit. Django Reinhardt is the cornerstone of a number of fests, particularly in the northwest. Bluegrass continues to flourish on, uh, grassy music venues. A number of classical music festivals populate outdoor arenas, often near traditional resort towns. I even know of an international accordion festival (very stimulating but not to everyone's taste I suspect.)
