Dress Code in churches in Italy/Rome
Does anyone know if women have to wear a dress (as opposed to pants) in the churches in Italy. In particular St. Peter's in Rome if we are attending a "public" mass. How about a head covering such as scarf, mantilla or hat? Is a head covering required?
What about other churches in Italy, again for attending a Sunday mass? Dress? Head covering?

Welcome to Fodors Mary. See the "Change Forum" pull down menu at the top of the page? Click that to go over to the Europe board and re-post your questions there, tagged for Italy. This forum is more for generic/general topics. Destination-specific questions get better response on the geographic forums (Europe, Asia, United States, etc)

Pants are fine!
Cover your shoulders and knees. Err on the side of slightly more covered and slightly more modest/dressy if in doubt. A mid-calf length skirt may be more comfortable than pants depending on what time of year you'll be there, just be sure that your knees are covered.
No you do not need to cover your head in any fashion.
