7 hours or less fromm NYC

My husband and I are able to take a last minute trip- next week. We only have 4 or 5 days, but want to make the most of it and are willing to travel pretty much anywhere from NYC. We are looking for easy flight from NYC (preferably nonstop), less than 7 hours travel time total. Not looking for Caribbean vacation this time of year, but possibly London (I know getting back is closer to 8hrs, thats OK), Dublin, or any other suggestions. It is such a wide open request that I am feeling a little daunted with the choices, so looking to some expert travelers...where would you go if you had unexpected time and money?!

By the way, since we don't want to waste a lot of time getting to destination, ideally nothing that involves long drives after flying in. But, really, any suggestions are welcome! Thank you thank you!!

As you noted, it's a very broad request and therefore hard to make suggestions. Perhaps if you included some of your favourite types of activities, things you like to see etc. it would help with recommendations.

Fly quickest or take the MapleLeaf amtrak.com and ViaRail

for a pretty scenic overland journey.

Flying best for a short stay though.

Some of the best wineries east of the Mississippi are in the Finger Lakes which you can drive to in less than 6 hours.
You can ride the Maple Leaf to Albany or Syracuse and rent a car from there if you don't want to drive out of the city.
I like Bully Hill just outside Hammondsport.

Seattle and possibly Vancouver or Victoria Island, we had a ball there last summer. Halifax and Cape Bretton (spelling?); Napa.

Easy - go to Iceland. This is the perfect time of year, it only takes 4 hours flying to get there, but once there you will a world away. Reykjavick has a very European flair and is small and charming, but take some excursions to see the other-worldly landscapes and swim in the hot springs. 4-5 days is just the right amount of time to see this tiny gem of a country. You will feel safe, everyone speaks English, and you can't get lost (so few roads).

I've been but I would go back - it's a very unique travel destination.

Thanks all! Decided on quebec, but all were very tempting. Hopefully we'll get another chance to make a quick getaway soon and try some other ideas!
