"A lot. As a rule, women are far less critical than men. They are also far more interested in social interactions with other people and weight experiences much more heavily on this criterion."
What a facile generalisation. Maybe that is YOUR experience of women, it is not mine. I thought this thread had died a timely death. Please crawl back into your misogynistic hole. I am female. I rate hotels, B&Bs etc. on a number of criteria and the behavior of the staff may be one, but professionalism is just as - and generally more - important than "social interaction". And I indicate whether or not it is a factor in my reviews - you just have to read them. |
I think it's a flawed premise to state that "B&Bs are overrated".
How is that the case? Has that supposedly been studied? |
>> As a rule, women are far less critical than men. <<
Codswallop! Maybe the women in your life are less critical . . . >) |
I can tolerate a lot of stuff I do not like, like ruffles and lace - yuk, but am much more critical than DH. He doesn't notice dirt and stains unless they are really bad, and decor is irrelevant to him. He only notices if things are untidy or uncomfortable. He hates poor Wifi reception. I think men and women are critical of different things.
|
Where is the 'study' that says women are less critical than men? Or more critical?
I think women are more detail-oriented in general, and I'd assume that means they are more critical in general. But has this ever been studied, or did someone just say that categorically? |
Interesting...go to profile, check out (R)ambo's other whining rants...and you'll soon learn that even as a newbie, he is fast moving up the Fodors ladder to the post of #1 contrarian/whiner/ranter. You may even get a good chuckle out of it. Fodorites, meet "Bah Humbug" personified.
(this is from a post written for another of (R)ambos masterpieces where he summarily takes Amsterdam apart..and another where Oxford is the victim..and yet another is Coimbra...the guy really covers the waterfont) |
hi guys, have you noticed that sandra??? (aka "zepole", names may change to suit my memory) has left the building and ambo has joined, just saying.
Pity really as sandra often had great facts on Italy. |
Still, 'tis a pity we have people who swear
|
@tower - s/he also thinks York is a "waste of time". Happily, since our tastes are so different, I will likely never meet her in real life. One does start to wonder what places s/he does think worthwhile, if only to avoid them.
|
Thursdays..he's worth one laugh, anyway. Though I suppose it's not nice to ridicule sickos. He (I'd bet it's a "he"...)must be a barrel of fun around a dinner table. Are you sure he wasn't ripping York, Pa.?

bilbo, I'm late to THIS thread of ambo's but prompted by something ambo posted elsewhere, I looked at his profile and FYI, they are presently having a right royal spat here: http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...m#last-comment they may be of the same ilk, but the same person they ain't. |
unfortunately zeppole aka sandralist is still on board and just as 'sweet' as ever. >)
|
Meant to add, she is the single biggest reason jamikins seldom posts anymore :(
|
shame!
perhaps they can annoy each other and leave the rest of us alone. |
sandralist has been giving great advice on the Europe board. I have no idea who jamikins is, but this personal grudge-holding is bizarre and childish.
|
>>sandralist has been giving great advice on the Europe board<<
As she has under her several other screen names (at least 4 so far). But eventually she just can't help herself and gets banished by the moderators for nastiness/personal attacks. Been going on for ages. Too bad really since she does offer knowledgable advice/info -- til she erupts. |
I notice Ambo Rambo has not been back on Fodors for months. Heard he/she opened up a B and B on an open lot in a Rio faviela.
|
I think it is all about expectations. People, who left plausible the reviews probably knew all the downsides. In the end it is all about price/quality ratio.
B&B are ok, in my opinion, if you are not planning to stay in the hotel for long. |
