Which luggage scales?
Hi,
Does anybody have advice on the most accurate digital luggage scales to buy? I need one that will measure in both metric and imperial. Initial research points towards Balanzza scales as being very good (model?), and the Salter scales also get a good mention. Any experience with these? Thanks in advance, lateforthesky |
We just put our suitcase on the regular bath scales. If they show under 50 lbs, so will the airport scales.

I also use the bathroom scales, but find it works best to weigh myself first, then weigh holding the bag and deduct my weight. Conversion btw metric and imperial is very easy. I find a large suitcase, fully packed, will generally come in under the limit by a few pounds even with some heavy items such as fat books. Worth weighing to make sure, though,as I've seen some very harried travellers having to repack at check in.

Thanks for the tips guys, but I have decided that I'd like luggage scales, as I'll be traveling all over, and won't have access to bathroom scales.
Kind regards Lateforthesky |
I picked up a small one at Target that works great. It doesn't need to be that accurate, a tenth of a pound is not going to matter one way or the other. Go for a cheap small one and you'll be fine. :)
I think mine shows standard and metric but I wouldn't swear to that. Worst case, simply multiply the kg by 2.2 and you have pounds. I.e. if you have a 15 kg limit, that's 33 pounds. |
You can buy the hanging type both online and in catalogs like TravelSmith, TravelProducts, Magellan's, REI, and the list goes on and on. I haven't personally bought a travel scale because I tend to travel on the light side, but I've ordered other things from TravelSmith, Magellan's and REI dozens of times and their customer service is great so if you don't like the scale you can always return it.

I agree. All the online travel catelogs have them (TravelSmith, Magellan's, etc.) I also travel light enough it's nothing I've ever needed myself.

Thanks to all for your great tips. I'll check out these sites. Will also have a look at Target :)

We got ours on line $15 ...never travel without it now and never had an issue

we use one that is digital and pretty accurate. Bought it at a travel/luggage store. Very handy considering the chaarges for over weight luggage.....

I bought this one from Amazon. Using it on all my trips currently. It's quite handy & light and seems to be accurate...
