Where Would You Go...

We're a couple in our early 50's, no kids, flying from Phila., trying to decide where to go for just under a week starting Feb. 25th. Are thinking warm and sunny, much lounging but also some stuff to do...possibilites could include architecture, quirky independent shops, snorkeling, movies, art (doesn't have to have all, just an idea of our interests). We love our food, but hoping to eat relatively healthy :-)

Somewhere we can get a direct flight to preferred but not an absolute requirement. Our challenge is that while we usually like places we can do lots of walking and even some light hiking, we're both (aargh!) dealing with recovering from injuries so need to be careful. We can walk, but can't do a whole lot at a time.

We're considering an island vacation but do want to do a little more than just lie on the beach (tho' a good amount of that is fine!), so are a little concerned about some of the islands we've been reading about. We're even considering some nights in a health spa if there's one that wouldn't break the bank and that's near somewhere interesting to visit.
Have received great ideas from Fodorites in past, that we've gratefully used, and are hoping for more of same.

All suggestions/thoughts welcome! Thanks in advance.

While San Diego isn't exactly warm, it's got to be warmer than Philladelphia :)

While most of our architecture is boring, you can always day trip.

The desert is lovely this time of year. Maybe a trip to Arizona might be fun.

Ever been to Savannah GA? My idea would be to get on the Silver Meteor (97)at 30th St. station at 4:58PM and arrive just before 7AM in Savannah. The fare for 2 is less than the airfare to San Diego. If the train does not suit you you can fly home.

Interesting thoughts, thanks. Been to San Diego several other times, but will explore both parts of Arizona we haven't been to, and also Savannah, where we've not been and hadn't thought of!

You can try out Costa Rica, Tahiti and I would also suggest Egypt. These three are satisfying about all of your needs except one or two.

You know, Georgia has always interested me as a travel destination. Not only because I have some family there but Atlanta and Savannah sound like nice cities.

Ended up deciding on an idea I got elsewhere, Puerto Vallarta, not staying in the big hotel section but in the old town area. Place looks great for peaceful and lounging, but lots to do whenever we choose. Thanks for the replies, I'm holding on to them for future!

climatefinder.com has a where-to-go-when feature which should let you find travel destinations that are warm and sunny in Feb/March. But it doesn't help with finding architecture, beaches, activities, etc.
