Where to travel in August
 

Hi. I live in NJ. Have a 4 day weekend coming up in the beginning of August. 20 year wedding anniversary. Would love to go to a great beach, maybe an all inclusive place, but worry about hurricanes. Can't travel too far, because of the short time we have, so east coast or caribbean preferred - Thur to Sun. Any specific recommendations?? Just my husband and I. Thanks!! P.S. thinking along the lines of Discovery Cove in Florida, where everything is taken care of for you...but don't want to travel to FL in August...

I'd possibly suggest Mexico since you mention AI & a beach. But August is horrible hot and rainy season most coastal areas.

I would say Cape Cod, MA I love it there.

What about going north? Cape Cod's a great suggestion. Or even further up to the coast of NH or Maine?

I don't maybe you're picturing more a tropical setting though?

My husband and I visited New Brunswick about 15 years ago and it is spectacular.
You could fly to Moncton or St John (no s). New Brunswick's Fundy coast is "like Cape Cod 50 years ago" (or so the Travel article in the San Francisco Chronicle said in an article a couple of weeks ago). Hopewell Rocks in New Brunswick (half an hour from Moncton) is not to be missed. Do a search on "Fundy Trail Parkway" to see if it has what you want (it begins near St Martins and travels for 11 miles along the cliffs through "some of the last coastal wilderness between Labrador and Florida). From this road you can hike or bike down (and see moose if you are quiet) to hidden waterfalls and pristine beaches. From the Fundy Trail you can look across the Bay of Fundy to Nova Scotia and see seals, birds and whales-right, humpback or fin. There are numerous whale watching tours available out of Grand Manan Island in St Andrews.
