Where to go over New Years?

My husband and I would like go somewhere over New Year's. Two years ago we spent New Year Eve and a few days after in Paris. We had a great time. Now we're looking for a new place to go to welcome in the new year. Would like it to be outside the US and for about a week. we would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

we've been to Edinburgh three times but, will keep it mind. We've made some friends there. It would be nice to see them again. It's also great in July when they their music festival.

Iceland! I've been wanting very much to get there for New Year's myself, but the timing just hasn't worked out for me.

It's a gorgeous country, there are some good restaurants in Reykjavik, and they go all out for New Years, from what I understand.

Some friends and I spent new years eve at boracay philippines last year. The beaches there are very beautiful.

We spent NYE in Florence, Italy. Italians like a good party. Rome would probably be fun, too.

London is a best place, you will enjoy a lot as I have enjoyed in Feb of this year.

We are going to Madeira as it is rated as one of the top places in the world to watch the New Years fireworks!

You can celebrate your New Year in Switzerland(Zurich). It is just stunning place to enjoy.

actually, We're now thinking of going to Iceland to see the Northern Lights for New Year's. What's the chances of seeing them the last week in Dec. the first week in Jan.? Is there a better location for this time of year. Thanks

We just got back from a two week vacation in June from Iceland. Be aware that in December you will be lucky to have 4 possibly 5 hours of sunlight along with alot of fog and rain? It is extremely expensive there-think fish and chips ($35 USD),bottle of wine in grocery store starts at $35 USD,bottle of Bombay Gin in grocery store is $78 USD,ham and cheese sandwich is $45 USD for some examples.
We loved Iceland but if you are driving be aware that alot of roads will be closed at that time of the year and the distances are alot further than you think. If you want to see the Northern Lights, I would recommend the northern portion of Iceland possibly stationing yourself in Akureyri or daytrips our of Reykjavik? Have fun!

My top 3 suggestions for spending the New Years would be:
1. Vienna
2. Sydney
3. Reykjavik

Looking into Vienna. Were you there over New Year's? If so where did you stay? Did you attend the grand ball?
