Where to Go in the Month of January???

OK, this question has a lot of possible answers but I will give some criteria for making the decision. We are looking for good weather and are looking to be out of the USA. We are looking at being gone for around 4 weeks. We were thinking of renting an apartment thru
VRBO. Some options we have considered are:
1. Buenos Aries
2. Viet Nam
3. Possibly Southern Europe (however not sure what country would have decent weather in January

If anyone would have any great suggestions please share them with me. I understand I am all over the place with those locations I have listed but we are open to anything at this point. We are leaving Northern Calif. which can have a lot of rain in January and want to go someplace where the weather can be nice and we can have an adventure. Not interested in Australia or New Zealand and this time. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your suggestion on Thailand. If you were to spend 4 weeks in Thailand where would you go? Spent 4 days in Bangkok and it is very interesting. Enjoy beaches plus the big city along with some adventure. How safe is Thailand and Bangkok currently?

South Africa, Kenya (though it's the start of rainy season I believe), Sri Lanka, Thailand.
What is your criteria for "good weather" though? Not rainy? Sunshine most of the time? Or are your open to some snow? If you don't want cold then skip Europe.

Just head south to Oaxaca and Chiapas in Mexico. Puerto Escondido has a wonderful beach and the weather will be great then. Visit the colonial city of Oaxaca and San Cristobal de Las Casas in the highlands near the Guatemala border. And there are the ruins at Palenque. You could even include Tikal with the time you have. I have some information about travelling to these places on my travel blog at ridingthebuses.wordpress.com. Too few Americans travel to Latin America outside resorts like Cancun and they are missing some great destinations.

Go to Vietnam! I'm completely biased because I'm Vietnamese but it is truly a beautiful country. January is a good time to go because it's not too hot and definitely not cold. My favorite parts are Nha Trang, Tuy Hoa, and Ha Long Bay. Flying from California the flight should not be expensive and even if it is USD goes a looong way in VN. Definitely consider it. Oh yes, and if you go at the end of January and into early Feb. you might catch the Vietnamese New Year celebration!

I think Vietnam is a great destination but I have been there in January/February and it was cold and rainy, particularly in the north. If that matters to you, choose another time for that country and instead head to Latin America.

We love Buenos Aires and Argentina - we rent an apt. and, each year we have added a week to our January/February trip.

We make a side-trip each year as well: Iguazzu Falls (Argentinean and Brazilian sides - Amazing !); the Northwest for a week (Spectacular, and culturally fascinating !); San Antonio de Areco for a weekend including a visit to an Estancia with working Gauchos; Tigre for an overnight or day trip, Colonia Uruguay, by ferry, for a day trip. This year the Lakes District, Bariloche, & maybe wine country, Mendoza. There is still so much to explore - Patagonia etc.

Happy travels, where ever you decide to go.
