Where to go for a beach/resort Honeymoon in Aug.
My fiance and I have been researching for weeks and can't seem to find the right place for a honeymoon in Aug. We're looking for a beach resort, amazing beaches, great food, activities (boating, snorkel, volleyball, etc) excursions available, some night life but not too overboard (we are in our late 30's and don't want a big party scene, but maybe some music/dancing, outdoor bar). We want a mix of some adventure/exploration and some resort relaxing. What I've found so far :
Aruba - too windy Costa Rica - too rainy Cabos - sounds like a big party scene Rest of Carribean - hurrican zone Maldives - sounds like there are very limited activies - diving and beach - no evening activities or nightlife when we want to do something. Bora Bora - too expensive - I'd prefer to be at a top resort but would not pay $25K for two weeks. Tahati - avg. temp on 76 degree (prefer 85 - 95)- sounds very quiet Mauritius/Seychelles - far to travel, sounds very quiet. Greece - I like the idea, but will likely be too much touring. We'd like to also try to mix in a couple of days on a yacht - one week resort, 3 nights yacht and back to resort. We also like the idea of "all-inclusive". Can anyone help us - Thanks very much - we have to decide soon . |
Two suggestions:
The Mediterranean coast of Turkey--actually much nicer than Greece; very friendly people; good food; nice weather; and there are yacht cruises around the Med. (I think they're called blue boats or something like that). |
Second: Nova Scotia, Canada. True, it's not tropical, but extremely beautiful and perfect weather in August. You can combine a visit to Halifax (try the Prince George Hotel or Halliburton House) with some time on the coast, or in the backwoods (see Trout Point Lodge).

Any reason Hawaii wouldn't work?
Cabo will be awful hot and humid in August. Don't go there. |
Hawaii is a wonderful option, but while Tahiti is expensive, it is possible to do a trip for less than $25,000. Cook Islands would also be lovely, but more quiet and private, authentic South Pacific experience . There is only 1 all-inclusive resort in Hawaii, but it might be exactly what you would enjoy for your cruise. You can go whale watching, take dinner cruise, helicopter excursions, go sea kayaking, hiking around the volcanoes
There are very romantic cruises off of the Greek Isles or Italy on a small ship luxury cruise line They have a zodiac that goes on trips into secluded beaches on small Greek Islands. It is a casual atmosphere, open dining with beautiful, newly refurbished staterooms with DVD, plasma televisions. It would be a wonderful combination of yacht and resort. Best Regards, Julia |
Southern and western Caribbean rarely get hit by hurricanes - ABC islands, Trinidad, Tobago, Grenada and Barbados. Trinidad not got the best beaches, but you should be able to something suitable on any of the other islands.

Thanks for the feedback. We've both been to Hawaii twice and were just there last year. I love it, but we wanted a new experience for our honeymoon. We're now leaning toward Greece - now to decide on the island. We're looking into land and sea packages. Ideally 5 to 7 nights at a really nice resort (maybe Starwood) and 3 or 4 nights on a cruise. I've read that a lot of the beaches are not soft sand. Does anyone know of resorts with nice sandy beaches (like Hawaii or the Carribean - or does that not exist there??)

Why not try Africa-Kenya, good beaches,
Good parks |
May I say TURKEY..........
Happy travelling, Murat |
I would recommend Greece as you can do a few nights bareboating or Grenada. We had our honeymoon in August 12 years ago and did a split of a few nights on land and a few nights on a crewed yacht in the Grenadines. It was incredible.

One good suggestion will be South Africa, Cape Town or the Garden Route. Over there you have resorts that are directly on the beach. Some of these actually specialise in weddings and honeymoons. There are a lot of amazing sights to see, and at night there is lots to do.
Another good suggestion is Bali or Thailand. Over there they have the most amazing villa's and resorts. The villa's have all the amenities, and the beach will be on your doorstep. I would really suggest you guys to consider Bali, because in my opinion it was great. Have you been to jamaica? The prices are fair, foods good, waters perfect and the scenery is some of the best in the world! My wife tried to get me to go for years and I finaly caved in last year, it will now be an annual trip for us. Only downside is someone is always trying to sell you weed, just ignore them and they seem to go away quickly. The roads are kinda scary, people drive like a bunch of 13 year old kids with 2 much power and redbull!

As Hurricane Dean passes over Jamaica as I write- this might be a good time to remind OP that August is Hurricane season in the Caribbean, Florida, and the Yucatan.

Mozambique is a lovely place for a honeymoon, friends of mine own a lodge in Northern Mozambique - Ibo Island Lodge. You'll have to make your own nightlife though(!), but its paradise and unspoilt. Its a bit of a trek to get there though...but worth it. Where will you be travelling from ? Let me know if you want more info

have you decided yet? i'm going on my honeymoon in august and planning it seems to be harder than planning the wedding!
we first were gonna go to greece but because the us dollar is so weak compared to the euro... then we figured that for the same price we can go all the way to bora bora. we had that all planned and realized we were spending about 15K on this trip which is way too much. now we're back at the very beginning. flying out from new york i just want to go somewhere a little 'out of the ordinary' for us, somewhere we'd only go once in a lifetime. please help! |
Another vote for Turkey. Even Greece & Turkey combo.
For 1/3 of the budget you can have a honeymoon like a king.... Congratulations and happy travelling, Murat |
