Sweden. Luckily someone else was paying most of it but when we sent out a small bit of laundry from the hotel (no laundromats around) the bill was $114!

It was a wonderful and trip when our sons were 9 and 10, but we probably won't go back on our own dime.

Newyorkmad--I got an E-mail yesterday claiming that Amsterdam and Edinburgh were on the "least expensive" category.

For Caracas, you'd have to add the cost of a bodyguard or three.

Iceland. I'd have to say it's worth it considering I've been back and am planning another trip there!

Norway and Switzerland mainly because of the food, but buy in grocery stores for picnics. Worth every bit spent!

What country are you from.? Expensive is biased depending on where you are coming from.Generally, Sweden is a very expensive country. But you can always find ways to minimize your expenses. When it comes to food, restaurants are very expensive so I suggest you rent a place where you can cook your own food, or just eat the falafel or shwarma which is really cheap compared to anything else.

For me it was Iceland - most expensive, and worst value IMO. I'm glad I went, but very unlikely I'd ever return.

We visit Switzerland once or twice a year and while expensive, as far as we're concerned, it's a much better value than Iceland. And yes, it's worth it.

I can let you know about Iceland after this summer. I personally found Switzerland expensive. Sweden I found cheap. I typically travel off season so that might say something. I found in Switerland the time of year doesn't matter and even though I stayed with a friend in Geneva, eating out cost a lot. I won't be going back there but I'm glad I went. I think a place is always worth going at least once.

Iceland for me as well. It was a great trip with my daughter, but every meal, every drink was very expensive. Our hotel luckily was on points. Will I ever go back? Probably not because to me it was a been there done that kind of thing. We had a fantastic time, but lots of places to go and see.

Norway - Oslo, but it was so worth it. I would definitely return, such a laid-back and beautiful place.

Wow, I had no idea Norway is so expensive. I hope to go there soon.

For me, Japan was the most expensive country, as I recall -- at least at the time it was, back in the late 80's.
