What Movie/s Are Your Renting?
What movies do have at home right now? Do you use NetFlixs or Blockbuster? Why do you use the service you use? If not either why not? How long have you had the movie/s you have? What movie/s are you ordering next?
|
What:
Water and The Squid & The Whale Which: Netflix Why: No Late Fees/Busy/Lazy/Forgot to swing by video store. In House: 1 day Next: The queue will decide/or one of us will re-sort the queue. :0 R5 |
I just returned Capote to Netflix. Wow, he really nailed that character. I had no idea Truman Capote never finished another book after writing "In Cold Blood."
I don't rent from the video store because their selection isn't the best here & I'd probably forget to return them. Netflix lets you keep them as long as you want to. I currently have 3 DVDs of the Up series from the UK following the lives of some 7 year olds in 1964 & checking in with them up to the time they're 30. |
Has anyone seen For Your Consideration?
I'm a huge Christopher Guest fan and just loved the one about the show dogs. |
My library has free video rentals.... Admittedly, you do have to want a bit for the more-popular movies (but the price is right!)
|
I'll be renting Babel this weekend from blockbuster.
|
We rented The Departed from Blockbuster.
I did not like the second half. I'll vote for the Queen. Loved Volver but saw that in the theater. |
cigalechanta I saw Volver on the plane from Singapore to home. It was great and wished I'd seen on a much bigger screen than the one on the chair-back. Also saw "Crash" well some of it. What a disturbing film. Was so graphic I had to turn it off in fear that the children near me could see it. What was SIA thinking of having that movie on? Ooops, tangent! Volver is a great movie!
|
Just watched Man of the Year with Robin Williams from Blockbuster.
I wish he would run for President. Then at least when we would say what is our President, a comedian? We could all say Yes and isn't it great? |
Just rented Scoop, the Woody Allen flick and enjoyed it very much.
|
Just got Cinema Paridisio and The Chorus from NetFlixs. I like them because they seem to have a really extensive foreign film inventory. Next on my que is The Departed and Un Chien Andalou.
|
I watched The last Kiss w/ Zach Braff last night, and I swear I have seen that movie before but in a foreign version. Does anyone know if it is a remake of a foreign film, I want to say maybe Spanish or French.
|
laartista, I did just read that it is a remake of a foreign film, but I don't know the title. Check imdb.com
|
None as SO has all the HBO, etc. channels on SAT TV.
M |
laarista, I believe The Last Kiss was a remake of an Italian film.
I just watched Russian Dolls last night - it's a sequel to The Spanish Apartment, a French film from a few years ago. I really liked Russian Dolls, especially the fantastic scenery in Paris, London, and St. Petersburg. Tonight, I plan on watching Marie Antoinette. I've been a Netflix member for three years now. The convenience is great - I'll never go back to the video store again! |
Thanks for the link Suki.
Meredith- I just looked it up on that link, you are right it was an Italian film. The whole time watching it I thought I had seen it before, but it was somehow different. Funny. |
This week, from Netflix:
The Departed Babel Half Nelson Guide to Recognizing Your Saints |
We just signed up for Netflix. We have the el cheapo package of 2 movies/month for $4.99. The first movie took us nearly 3 weeks to watch -- a sure money maker for Netflix, lol.
So far we have ordered The Notebook Home Prarie Companion and Trust the Man :"> My oldest son loves Netflix for the indie selections -- he's not as cheap as me, lol. |
Just rented Marie Antionette and love it. Might buy it. It is a visual feast.
Loved the Illusionist. Loved World Trade Center (it isn't at all depressing, but very uplifting, true, moving story about what happened to these two police officers in 9/11 and their rescue). Also really liked You, Me and Dupree, and at the moment have "The Affiar if the Necklace" which I have not seen yet. Last week tried to get through the Departed, but DH and I just lost patience with it. Too much talking... Oh yea, and Bride and Prejudice, a Bollywood movie, totally entertaining. I really liked the music. |
From Netflix: Boynton Beach Club. Especially hilarious as I live in an "Active Seniors" community. I like Netflix' huge inventory of rentals.

Carrybean,
I enjoyed the 7 Up series having watched it from beginning. The last one we saw in the UK had them in their 40's. What a shocker!! The ones you thought would did well did'nt(the young boy from Liverpool who looked a bit like Paul McCartney ended up as a down and out) and the (Posh ones) especially one of the "toffee nosed upper crust Toffs" the real snooty one, well he turned out to be involved with charity work in Africa! Marvellous program, hope it carries on into their 50/60's.. |
Haven't rented a movie in years. They're all on Pay Per View - or one of the 8 HBOs, 9 Showtimes etc. (Almost all the video stores in my neighborhood are gone - only one left within any reasonable distance - used to be at least a dozen.)
|
Rent through Blockbuster when it first started. Last movie was An Inconvenient Truth... made Al Gore look good, but had nothing really new to say. Evolution leads to De-Evolution. Coming in the mail.. I hope (actually it' usually pretty timely)... The Illusionist and One Night With The King. Is Netflix any better than BB? What are the perks/differences that we should switch for?
|
My library has free flicks too, and I use their collection to get caught up - I just saw Almost Famous. I liked it. WIth movie tickets and gas prices going up, I probably will start renting even tho I love the big screen.
|
Hi KellyAnn, I subscribe to Netflix. I haven't used Blockbuster. Do I understand it properly that with Blockbuster you can return the movie to their store and pick up the next one or mail it back and receive the next movie through the mail? I have a Blockbuster very close to where I live.
If you have time please let me know how Blockbuster works. Thanks!! |
hi KellyAnn, You could start a new thread with your Blockbuster vs Netflicks question. It's pretty lost way down & in the middle of this thread that was started with a different kind of question.
|
LoveItaly,
Yes, I believe you have it right--with BB you can either mail it in or return to their store, but I think NetFlixs seems to have a much bigger foreign film selection, which is why I stay with them. Just saw Cinema Parisdisio--can't believe I haven't seen this gem before. We saw Chris Botti the other night and he kept raving about it, and now I see why. |
Hi artlover, Cinema Paridiso..I loved it also!!! I have been offline for since Saturday and had a hard time sending emails since Friday..so..well you know. But all is OK now.
BTW, the movie from the book "I'm Not Scared"..you two might enjoy it. I can't remember the name of the Italian author but it was quite interesting to me especially since it took place in S Italy during the summer of 1978. We drove through the same area at the time this story (fiction of course) took place. I keep forgetting to rent it. The description of the area was so accurate and interesting as was the description of the life there during that time period. |
We watched "Little Miss Sunshine" this weekend and loved it. Rental was through COmcast.
We have "Face in the Crowd" with Andy Griffith, Patricia Neal and Lee Remick ready to roll soon. We try to keep some support heading our small indy video store's way. |
We rent films from Blockbuster every weekend. Last weekend it was Man of the Year (good) and Babel (hated it)
