Just recently I read Sarah Helm's A Life in Secrets, a biography of Vera Atkins, a key figure in the running of the French section of the WW2 Special Operations Executive, and in tracking down exactly what had happened to those captured in France. It uncovered much interesting material on quite why she was so secretive about herself.

Currently waiting on delivery on a couple of the Pieter Posthumus series of crime stories set in Amsterdam, by Britta Bolt

Just finished “The Splendid and the Vile” by Erik Larson. It is the story of Winston Churchill and his leadership during the Battle of Britain. I couldn’t put it down.

For anyone who is interested and able to participate in the Lounge forum, the Fodors Book Group is reading Ordinary Light, a memoir by Tracy K. Smith for its August selection. There will be a discussion thread starting August 1st but you can read the book later and add your thoughts then.

As an aside, I don't understand what the current criteria for joining the Lounge are. I can't find an explanation anywhere.

I would like to see that discussion, but no longer can get into the lounge since i can not log in with my old user name. I do not know the rules for “new” posters either.

The Book of the Dead:Toronto by historian A. Bunch. A great collection of his short story-articles that trace our city's history from its earliest native roots all the way through to today. He writes with economy and pace. Very very readable and a superb way to learn more about ages past.

I am pretty much done my own book and now need to secure an editor, while making the final photo selections. I self-published last time through the University of Toronto, but will likely go with a new press located at our city's Reference Library.

I am done. The end.
