vacation ideas for 9 yr old
 
Hi - We were planning to go to Egypt in mid-April but decided to cancel that trip. Any suggestions on where we can take our 9 yr old for vacation? Not beaches or disney locations. Budget is not an issue. Thanks!

Jordan for Petra and Wadi Rum and Madaba, and Syria for a lot of great sites, and Lebanon (maybe - check the political situation). Very close to where you were going in the first place. Lots of European tourists but few Americans.

What kind of 9yr old? Some are more bookish (interested in other cultures/dinosaurs/natural phenomena) and some are very action-oriented (sporting events/playing games/rides/hiking/biking). For instance I have a nephew who is a foodie who wants to go to Italy to try the regional cuisines (I know!).
