Trip Ideas for Adventure / Tropical Thanksgiving Holiday

My husband and I are trying to find a destination for the Thanksgiving holiday departing from New York City / Philadelphia area.

We are open to any suggestions:
- can be off the beaten path - not too touristy
- accommodations can be rustic - beach front a plus
- enjoy doing activities like kayaking, atvs, snorkeling, hiking
- some beach time
- do not need a crazy nightlife but maybe a local watering hole or two
- do not need to be in th same place the whole trip

We have been to Costa Rica before and loved it but looking for a new place to explore.

Thank you!

I forgot to add we enjoy "doing like the locals do". We like to experience the culture.

How long will you have to spend in paradise?

One week-ish in November. Friday 18 / Saturday 19 to the following Saturday or Sunday.

Mexico. I don't beach but others here do and can advise you in that regard.

Yeah we're not typically big beach people either that's why a day or two relaxing on the beach and other days exploring would be perfect.

Thank you.

I've heard very good things about Merida, close to the water (20 miles or so) but not on it. I'm considering it for my next trip down, as well as other colonial cities which aren't close enough for a day at the beach. I also wouldn't advise trying to stay in more than 1 location for such a short visit.

If Mexico interests you at all I suggest posting on the Mexico forum where you'll find people with ideas for you. Or any other specific forum to get more suggestions.

Dominica - it is an Eco-tourist's delight. The entire island is "off the beaten path" with over a hundred miles of hiking trails, dense rain forests, scores of waterfalls and hot springs, navigable rivers and streams for kyacking, local flare - in short everything on your list. If you liked Costa Rica you'll love Dominica.
