Traveling with Wedding Cake!
 

My daughter was married last August and a large chunk of their wedding cake is still in my freezer. I am going to visit her on Monday, as her baby is due exactly a year after the wedding, and want to take the cake with me. But she lives in Italy, so what do you guys suggest is the best way to get this to her? Let it defrost & carryon... Freezer-pak... Will they let me on the various airlines? Should I forget about it?

I didn't think freezer packs were okay because of the gel.

STW: Thank you so much for the good wishes. I took your advice and just posted on the Lounge. That site seems a lot more busy than this one! Agree with you about the freezerpak, probably wouldn't work.

Pack it with freezer packs and check it in a well packed box. If it's checked, it'll be put with the luggage and will stay cool under the plane. Do like fisherman do and get a little cooler to protect it from being smashed, and you can pack it well. Then leave the cooler in Italy.

Wouldn't it be much simpler, not to say cheaper, just to buy a new cake on location? I am sure they make great cakes and pastries in Italy.

Unless of course there is what we'd call a "sentimental value" attached to that leftover cake.

BTW, is it chocolate, by any chance?
