How accomodating are hotels for small dogs ? We haven't travel in the last 6 years because of our little guy. When we leave him home with sitter or in kennel he gets really sick. I guess you think I'm sick but the vet bill is more than the trip !

Don't even try to go to the UK.

They have such a fear of rabies that the dog will be quarantined, for, I believe, up to 6 months.

Why would it be sick that you put your dogs health above you desire to travel? Kennels and sitters haven't worked so you stayed home. That's not sick, that's part of being a dog parent.

How comfortable is your dog in places away from home? Some dogs are quite happy in a hotel room and some freak out. Would your dog be happy in a travel crate in a hotel for the day or would he bark frantically anytime you were out of the room? Is he polite (ie. doesn't jump up on people in the hallway/lobby, doesn't bark at people, is good with kids, etc)?

May I suggest starting small? A single overnight trip in a local hotel might help you figure out if your pup will travel happily or not. If he can't handle a single night in that situation then you'll have a lot of work in front of you before you could really take him traveling, no matter what the hotels thought about dogs. Would you want to leave him in the hotel room during the days when you were out sight-seeing or would you want to take him with?

If you're in the US, the La Quinta chain accepts small dogs in their rooms.

Some hotels that allow dogs will not allow them to be left uncrated and unattended, or at least will not clean your room if that's the case. And of course you can't take them to restaurants or sights in mst cases. I'd look into daycare possibilities wherever you travel.

I'd also travel with a gate if you are going by car. Airplane travel is relatively easy but can be expensive. Southwest and JetBlue are the mst te friendly airlines.
