Travel ideas with my 15 year old

Looking for some ideas to take my son on vacation. We live in MN and he loves history. Any good ideas?

Budget? Where in the world would you be interested in seeing? When will you be traveling? Do you prefer hot or cold settings?
Any other hobbies besides history? What are your interests? How many traveling, just you 2? We need much more information to be able to help. :)

Welcome to Fodors. If you know that you want to stay in the US, you should post this question on the US board, also stating how far you are willing to travel.

I think you need to explain more actually what is the purpose of your trip? Are you want to make it educational trip or just want to make it for fun.

Mismrc, why don't you try answering this question for yourself. If you did, you might realize that you have not provided nearly enough information for anyone to respond to.

You can't expect to get 'Travel Ideas' without some basis on which to make suggestions. Vacation, 15 year old, history, beach, in August, are simply not enough.

What budget?
Travelling how? ie. fly, drive.
For how long?
What kind of history? ie. War of Independence,Civil war, Industrial history, spanish exploration of the Pacific, route 66, the list is endless.

This isn't really a travel agency where you go in and say, 'I'm feeling restless, where can you suggest I go?' They get paid to walk you through things like budget etc. to get to suggestions.

Here, you are expected to do some of your own homework and then post an intelligent question that provides enough information for someone to try and answer it.

Most of the US has a pretty recent history and adding beach time is harder yet. The best I can come up with is there is a lot of history in NOLA and then you drive to gulf beaches for a few days.

Beaches + History= Boston and South Shore and or Cape Cod or Philadelphia and NJ Shore.
