Travel Guide for Single Senior Lady
We would like to give our mom a book to inspire her to travel more. A little about her; She is 65, in reasonably good shape and has no major medical issues. She is a retired school teacher but because of my late father's work and her own financial prowess she is very "comfortable". She also has several friends that are in similar shape.
Can you recommend a book to give her that might inspire her to "spend some (or all) of our inheritance?" |
I havea not read this book but
would "Wander Lust and Lipstick" fit the bill? Check it out on Amazon.com |
I'm 60 and female and traveling solo, so you could have her take a look at my website - www.wihelmswords.com. I don't have an "older female" book to recommend, but I find Hasbrouck's "Practical Nomad" quite inspirational as well as being a lot of practical help.
Congrats on wanting her to get out there instead of staying home! |
thursdaysd - the link you provided is not working for me...

Oops - spelling mistake! Try www.wilhelmswords.com

Browse a bookstore or Amazon.
There's no shortage of short story collections of gutsy (and other) women traveling when they are older. "Hot Flashes from Abroad" is one I remember (though the title was more clever than the book in that instance). |
thursdaysd - I've just started reading your website and wanted to tell you that I'm enjoying it very much!

Thanks travelgirl2! I haven't put the latest trip up yet - one month in Europe seeing if my broken ankle had recovered - its just gone to my email list. I also hope to get a trip report up on fodors soon.

Hi,
I am not sure what activities they do.But I do know they refer to themselves as an "adventure group for singles over 40" & they have recently stayed in Lake Tahoe at the Franciscan Lakeside Lodge in Tahoe Vista & had a great time!!! The website is www.moziesadventures.com 916-782-7181 As far as a book I don't know. I wish her happiness though. |
Not a book but a suggestion for if and when she is ready to travel. I have a single girlfriend in her early 60's who always takes her trips thru Elderhostel. She has been some amazing places! And says she is always very well taken care of by the tour company.

Thanks!

That's sweet! The last time I gave my mom something was a scooter. She loved it! She uses it everyday to go the store, I don't know what book she might like, but try her hobbies, or even travel. Search www.mydriveholiday.com, they have some tips for old ladies travelling somewhere.

Hell,
I am new so a bit late for this post but I thought I would share anyway. Since some of you were giving travel suggestions to your mom, I really recommend the company french escapade, www.frenchescapade.com if she wants to travel to France in a very small group of 8 women. I went on their tour and it was fabulous because it is between the "tour" and the "solo" traveling, in a sense that they welcome you at their house for the week, provide a chef on site and Jackie, the owner of the company escorts you on day tours. If you want to stay at the house one day instead of going on the excursions, you can. I think for your mom and 7 of her friends, it will be perfect so they willl not even be with other people if they do not want to. |
Solo, female, senior traveler, 61. Much prefer traveling with a good travel match. Would like to hear from others who might want to do the same. thanks.
