The best travel SIM card?

I have always been facing the issues of getting a SIM card when I travel around, especially in Europe. I am not from Europe and I usually have a very big challenge to get the local SIM. My previous trip to Italy was totally a mess without any internet. I landed in the midnight and the shops were closed and I only managed to get a SIM card the next day in Milan. Worst thing was, I had to pay 20 Euros and I stayed only 7 days in the country. Any recommendation or solution for my next trip?

Yep, the Dutch Vodafone SIM I bought last year on eBay worked great for me in Europe. I'm using it again right now in Portugal. Still haven't used it in Netherlands!

Thanks everyone for the suggestion! However, my friend just told me about Flexiroam (they provide global data and they are currently providing free data). The thing is that I am based in Asia and I travel quite a bit to different continents. So, free roaming in EU does not apply to my data plan :omg:

For Flexiroam, has anyone used it before? Any feedback?
