Thanksgiving week trip

My husband and I live in Tampa, Florida. Each Thanksgiving we take a weeks vacation. We are in the stages of planning our trip this year and would welcome any suggestions. We are budget-minded and also looking for a location that is easy to fly to from Tampa. The last few years we have visited Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, St. Lucia and Jamaica. We would love to explore some new locations. Thanks in advance for any help.

Suggestions based on what? Other than 'new locations' you have not provided any criteria for someone to use to come up with suggestions.

How about Miami? Will that do, it's as good a guess as any other. See my point? It has the kind of weather and activities that your previous choices have. It's cheap to fly to from Tampa.

So come on, provide some criteria that matter to you. If all you want is a list of other peoples favourite Caribbean islands, that's all you'll get, a list of all the islands as well as some mainland areas of Mexico etc. Any travel agent you walk into can give you that list and prices.

We would like to travel outside Florida, other than that we really don't have much criteria....other than we both work very hard all year to have one vacation so we prefer some relaxation, as well as seeing new things (such as historical sites, beautiful scenery, good food, etc.) We travel alone, so we don't have to keep kids in mind. I know that this is not that specific to location, but that is why I posted, to see if anyone has had a recent visit to a place that perhaps we never considered before.

Really Deb7, it seems you are just asking a question any travel agent could better answer for your. A list of places with a given budget. You haven't even said for how long and what budget.

If I say, 'I like the British Virgin Islands' is that good enough? If 10 others name 10 other places, in order to pick one you are still going to have to do your own research on each to decide. A travel agent can easily give you a list of 10 places if that's what you want.

There is no doubt that many people have made a recent visit to places that you have never considered before.

How's this one look: http://www.concordiaeco-resort.com/

Are you familiar with Eco Lodges as a concept?
National Geographic counts Condordia in the top 50 worldwide.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I have to admit my husband generally plans our trips and I wanted to give him some support this year! I really appreciate the link you provided. Thanks again.

Must it be a warm weather destination? You haven't said if you've been to DC or New York; DC is lower cost than New York because the vast majority of attractions are free, both are must-sees for anyone. Charleston and/or Savannah would be fun, and you could get beach time in, too.

Mexico

Hi Deb! There are many places here in the US to visit that will be warm and full of fun things to do and great places to stay even on a budget. In California there is Santa Barbara, Big Sur or even Palm Springs. Zion National Park in Utah is absolutely stunning in November and you'll avoid the peak season crowds.

Some unique spots outside the states to check out are Nicaragua, St. Kitts & Nevis, Turks & Caicos or even the Bahamas. All have a wide variety of accommodations to suit your budget.

Another option that shows up as a top travel spot is Puerto Escondido, Mexico. The flight may be longer than you wanted, but as a Travel + Leisure top pick it may be worth the extra travel time.

Hope this gives you a few ideas. Have a great trip!
