I am taking an Avalon river cruise in Europe and would like to know what adapters/ converters or whatever to take along in order to recharge my iPad and iPhone. Any recommendations for specific gizmos would be appreciated. Thanks.

Nearly all electronics these days run on 110 and 220--there should be a label on each that states this. All you need is a very simple plug adapter, which will cost a couple of dollars.

Your iPad/iPhone are already dual voltage. The type of plug adapter you'll need (if any) depends on the sockets on the ship. The cruise brochure/website should give you that info.

Costs a few dollars and you can get them in any Target/Walmart/department store/luggage store.

For hairdryers -- you probably don't need to take take one - most hotel provide them. Check w/ the cruise line if they are in the cabins.

That is true for 'electronics' like readers/laptops/phones/etc . . . that is not the same as electrical appliances like hairdryers, curling Irons, etc. Some are dual voltage but the vast majority are not.

No voltage converters are necessary as your iPad and iPhone are "dual voltage" so you can use either 110V or 220v outlets.

I've not sailed on an Avalon Ship but have been on a great many "ocean" and "river" ships and every one has had both types of outlets in the staterooms.

I assume you are from the US so to be on the safe side just bring along a "European Plug adaptor" (i.e. Type C - 2 round prongs -http://www.worldstandards.eu/electricity/plugs-and-sockets/) - they are inexpensive and can be purchased in places like Radio Shack or in the "Travel/Luggage Department" of most major department stores and stores like WalMart, Target, etc. or online at Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Europ.../dp/B000BMFHLE)

You didn't ask about a hairdryer, but since someone brought it up... If it is not dual voltage you would need a converter as well as an adapter. Much better to leave it at home.
