spa destination?
I am a 50 yo who needs a break from an intense year of a new job!
I've thought about many places- most recently Costa Rica, Belize or Ubud- quite a range and no decisions- Any recommendations? I am pretty open- Love the ocean and seeing and being around local culture and food..hmmm... thanks! |
Outside Guadalajara is a place called Rio Caliente that is not near the sea but is quite delightful for a relax and recharge getaway. They don't advertise and operate pretty much on word of mouth referrals. It is quite laid back, not a place that tries to sell you overpriced manicures at every turn, nor is there a rigid schedule. Food is vegetarian but even this carnivore loved it - all fresh and locally grown. http://www.riocaliente.com

hey, I've heard good things about that recommendation above!
Another option is taking a trip to a place that you know also has individual treatments available. For instance in Puerto Vallarta or Waikiki on various beach vacations, I've also included finding a place for a massage, facial, or pedicure. |
Just checked in, after a bit-
This is not the first time that riocaliente has come up as a suggestion- thank you, I ma going to look into it- I just cannot seem to make up my mind about where to go this summer- I am now thinking of the Basque region. Thanks to you both, |
I have always been interested in the seaside spas of Europe where they treat you with "the waters".

suze,
I am coming close to deciding on splitting my time between the Grand Hotel in St. Jean de Luz- a little pricey, but a nice reward of the spa treatment you speak of for a year of hard work, and Pension Bellas Artes in San Sebastian. I will post... Thanks! |
Good for you if you decided to reserve some time for yourself! Take a look at http://www.infospa.org/, you will find thousands of spa destinations, wellness resorts. And the best thing about it is that it diplays all the contact details, like adress, tel numbers and urls.

Much cheaper to spa in Asia. Bali has many beautiful resorts and villas. Ditto Phuket Thailand.

Try Miraval Resort in Arizona. It is amazing. I have been there three times, although it's been a couple of years since I've been able to schedule a trip back. Now Oprah has featured it on her show so it's a little more difficult to get a reservation. It is less expensive June - September due to the weather. Tons of activities, or you can do nothing at all but sit by the pool and get your daily spa service. www.miravalresort.com
