solo travel ideas

I just had a trip to Israel abruptly canceled and am now looking to travel on my own. I am in my 60's - very fit and always wanted to go to Costa Rica. Would this be good for me- any suggestions on how to put a trip together for just myself. Is it better to get a resort and do things from one place?
I used to travel on my own all the time, but haven't for a couple of years. Any suggestions?
thanks
Susan

If you used to travel on your own, what are the problems now? If you need inspiration see this thread: http://fodors.com/community/travel-t...collection.cfm

For tips on travel to CR you will get more help if you post on the Mexico and Central America forum.

Sure, if you want to go to Costa Rica, go. There's loads of CR information right here on the Fodor's forums for Mexico & Central America.

I can't advise about Costa Rica but I travel solo once or twice a year, usually to either Hawaii or Mexico, but also to the Caribbean or Europe.

My method is just figuring out where I want to go, then buying a plane ticket, and booking a hotel(s).
