solo to cancun
 

I'm a guy turning 40 in July. As a gift to myself I've decided to go to Cancun for 5 days.I've always wanted to see the Mayan ruins though my first choice would be Egypt.I'm single so i thought it would be more appropriate to go solo than try to find someone.Besides I rather just chill and relax and do what I want than having to worry about entertaining someone. Is cancun the right spot? I'm staying at the Hyatt Caribe.Got a great deal.What are some solo friendly things I should do?

I've been to Cancun dozens of times, alone many...the third pyramid in the world after Giza is outside Mexico City, if you are going mainly for that, but the Yucatan is a great place to see some wonderful ruins...I enjoyed beach time, naps by the pool, walking in town, and you get to know the staff, and it's a fun, friendly atmosphere. Especially if you do some tours like you mentioned. I think it's a perfect solo spot.

If I were in Cancun solo, I would look into taking the ferry to Isla Mujeres or maybe bus down the coast to Playa del Carmen (as these two places interest me and I have not been). but with only 5 days, honestly would probably just hang on the beach and at the hotel pool.

I vacation in Mexico often solo (PV) it's easy and fun. You can meet people, or not, do activities, or not, as you choose. I have yet to have a bad experience.

Since you've only got 5 days, I'd say map out how/when to get to some of the ruins would be the only part that might take a bit of work to pull logistics together.

thanks Suze and Wednesday for your insight. I assume that the tours to see the ruins would be an all day event. I'll hang by the pool/beach for two days, I think that would be fine.After all the sun from what I understand is pretty fierce in mid July, so I may want to limit my time. What about night spots?

July is fierce, your glasses will fog up when you walk outside, LOL, hot hot hot, do your beach days at the end, that way if you get killer sunburn it won't ruin your trip LOL. Yes, the ruins from there will be an all day affair...As for nightlife, I honestly haven't been there recently, the place I used to hang out might not even be there anymore, but there will be bookoo advertisements and maps showing hot spots. Depends on what you want, dance, jazz, coffee, Cancun is so small, the hotel zone is ony a few miles long, so some areas you can walk and hop to several different places in one night if you want. I liked to eat at 100% Natural if they are still there, deeeelish !

I've been there by myself and I can't say this enough, USE
SUNSCREEN! I made the mistake of talking to some people one day outside and got the worst sunburn of my life. Make sure that you apply it regularly ,even if you are not out trying to get a sun tan. Everything else is secondary, fun in the sun. Don't let the sun fool you. It is strong!

Thanks windycity. SPF 50 enough?? ..lol. I heard the sun is brutal.

I get by with 30 but apply it first thing in the morning, even for just walking around. And reapply throughout the day. I don't stay out in the sun more than a couple hours total in any given day.
