Solo Relaxation Spa Resort Trip for Labor Day Weekend for 40th Birthday

I have decided to take my first solo vacation for my 40th birthday. I want to do a resort/spa vacation to celebrate myself. Most of my friends have children, spouses, mates, and, frankly, if I wait on any of them to go anywhere or do anything I wouldn't ever leave the state!

Anyway, I've decided that I want to do something beach-like but relaxing, leaving on Sept 1 and returning Sept 6. I need the trip to be budget -friendly (whatever that is), since I have just started a new job, but I want to enjoy my experience. I'm not looking to do anything crazy--no crazy diets, exercise, or anything too far off the beaten path, but just a quiet, relaxing vacation that might have some enjoyable off-site excursions. Since I don't have children, I would prefer to go somewhere where there will not be a lot of interaction with kids/families----again, stressing a quiet, peaceful getaway. Lots of massages and beauty treatments would be fun to try. Can anyone recommend a resort or even a location? I live in the Midwest, so I don't want to go so far that I am so jet-lagged that I won't enjoy myself, but I am open to going as far as is feasible.

San Diegooooo. So many nice and mid-range priced places to stay and it might be fun to try more than one spa.

Probably not right for you, but when I want a solo relaxing vacation I just head to either Mexico (Puerto Vallarta or Cabo) or Hawaii (usually Waikiki). You can make your own "spa" just by the things you do each day. Relax by the pool, go to the beach, have a massage or pedicure, etc.

You don't say where in the Midwest you live. Allegiant Airlines has service from Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Moline/Quad Cities, Peoria and Rockford to Las Vegas, Phoenix/Mesa and Tampa Florida. http://www.allegiantair.com/aaIndex.php
They do a great job job of bundling hotels, tours, shows and rental cars with their flights. Many of the hotels in Las Vegas have the spa treatments you are looking for. It is also a good city to do some sightseeing from.
