Should I buy new luggage?

It reminds me of the giraffe suitcase in the same vein that I saw a child drag through the BsAs airport on our way to El Calafate. I so wanted one. Alas, I believe that I'm over the age limit...
As for the OP, definitely get the medium sized one (no larger than 26"
if you like to overpack. That way, you can overpack, but not by much. That's the largest I would suggest for traveling by train in Italy, particularly if you're traveling by EuroStar. Any larger, and your suitcase will definitely be out of your sight.

Remember: everything that you're too old to get away with now, you will be able to get away with when you're old. Buy the Dinky Tiger now and save it until you can get away with it and then carry it proudly - be a proud as a tiger!

Just an extra tip - you can never have too much luggage. If you ever move, you can pack your clothes in all the luggage. It's much easier to carry suitcases full of clothes than it is to carry boxes of clothes.
Years ago I bought a 28" suitcase with to end compartments (perfect for shoes). It's too massive to actually take on a trip, but every time I've moved, it's carried the majority of my clothes. Wheeled suitcases also work well to move books.

toed, that is what we are doing with a piece of old luggage..It is like a Steamer Trunk! huge! so on our move to Argentina, I will just pack it for storage.
I remembered my daughter bought hot pink luggage, might be DKNY or Diane Von F..but she loves that she can see it right away...I have trouble with polka dots and plaids and hot pink..or lime or neon blue or....lol..

Scarlett--We have one of those huge things too. Have never used it except in moving. I could kick myself for ever buying that thing. It just takes up space. LOL...should I buy each of us those little animal bags and surprise my mom and DD with them?

I have a 29 inch suitcase which is in perfect shape but way to big for using (I don't know why I purchased it except for the fact a friend from Italy was here and he insisted it was "perfect". Anyway I was going to get rid of it until Starrsville asked if I had extra bed pillows that I stored (I did indeed). Well thanks to her those bed pillows are in this piece of luggage staying clean and taking up much less room than they did on a shelf in one of my closests. Such a great idea!

I have a slew of suitcases - and I do use them to store bulky items, out of season clothes, etc. It's very easy to roll out the suitcase, unpack summer clothes and pack up winter clothes and roll the suitcase back into storage.
toedtoes, I use the small (emphasis on small!) suitcases to move books on an almost daily basis. Took me years to catch on to that great idea. I used to buy the $10 Wal-Mart "Rome" brand - and they last forever and/or Target's versions. I think I paid $15 each for the Target versions.

OK, surely we can think up some more ideas for old luggage so we can justify buying new stuff.
How about taking an old matching set, laying them out on the ground biggest to smallest and using them as an end table. You could extra throw pillows, throw blankets, etc. in them. And, the outside pockets can hold your remotes. You could build your love of travel into your home decor! If the colors are wrong, just buy some spray paint or fabric paint and decorate them.
Or how about using them to store wrapping paper?
Do you enjoy carry on bags? How about using the one from last year to store this year's tax papers. Everytime you do your taxes, use your existing carry on bag to store the papers and buy a new bag. Hey, maybe you can write off the bags as "tax preparation costs"?

I've actually been using old luggage for storing my clothes for the season for years. My mom sure is smart about recycling! It really does save space in the basement, and makes great use of tired luggage that are no longer suitable check-in luggage.
