Rome too much to enjoy alone??

My first post!!

Visiting friend in Geneva end of May have another 5 days to play with. Always wanted to visit Italy just not alone don' speak Italian wondering if I'd have fun or just be depressed not to share the beauty of where I am with a romantic partner. Not into the whole tourist scene like more the real life behind the scenes. If not Rome then another city or bag it and go somewhere else? maybe greek Islands?? Help!! Also am a pro photographer so more interesting the better. Shoot a lot of fashion so beautiful women a big plus sorry if I sound confused I guess I am a little. 1st part of trip locked down and great second half a total mystery to me.

Thanks for any suggestions and thoughts.

As a tourist and a photographer you will have the world at your feet in Rome whether you are solo or not. It is one of the major cities of the world! It is easy to be solo there.

There are beautiful women there if that is what you are asking, I am not sure about them posing for you, you will have to work that part out.

Start out by looking up what interests you in Rome and then narrow it down to what you can see in five days.

If a place is good enough to share with a romantic partner, it's good enough to visit alone. Besides, if you're looking to get pictures it's easier to focus on photography (as it were) if you're not worrying about what a non-photographer travel companion is going to do while you're getting your pictures.

If you're open to having fun, you'll have fun. It might not be as enjoyable as if your Special Someone were there with you, but it's still enjoyable. But if you let your fear of being alone (or your fear of being perceived as a "loser" because you're in romantic Rome alone) you may well have a miserable time. In that case, stay home and save your money if you think you'll enjoy that more.

Go to Rome. Why should Rome be limited to only those in relationships? Seriously, many of the "couple travelers" miss the romance of Rome - at least you have a reason for it. And perhaps one of those beautiful Italians would be happy to share that part of the trip with you.

I wouldn't worry about the language - just learn a few phrases and you should be OK (as per all the "I don't speak Italian/French/etc. will I have a problem in Italy/France/etc." threads).

I visit friends outside Geneva & have combined it w/ Venice twice.

Why don't you go to Venice for your other 5 days? You can take a sleeper train that leaves midnight-ish from Geneva, Lausanne, Vevey... and be in Venice in the early morning. Talk about photo ops. I had a great time in Venice solo, it's perfect... If you choose to feel sorry for yourself for not having romance at the moment, well that's another topic.

Thanks all for suggestions much appreciated. I've traveled throughout most of Europe, China throughout South America alone just saved Italy for a different kind of trip but think suggestions are right on you make of it what you do can't put off forever. Met with one of the agences I shoot for and preparing a letter of introduction for me to hit Milan that's where most of the modeling agencies are so maybe I'll do Rome and Milan.

Cheers and thanks again,

I am a hopeless romantic, so being in Rome on my own was lonely. Also, I almost got mugged & fondled by a few different random men at different times...so a female shouldn't travel alone there unless she knows karate or something like that.

Rome is easy to do alone. Look how much fun Audry Hepburn had in Roman Holiday. :-)

Kidding aside, I had a great time on my solo trip there.

Keep in mind, even if you do travel with someone, there's no guarantee that's going to be a storybook vacation! I've been with 'significant others' on trips and I felt more alone WITH them than all by myself. Meet someone there if you want to! It's a big city and everyone's horny so you can't lose! Just bring lots of condoms!

Oh, and to the person saying that women should know karate if you're traveling in Rome alone...you're not kidding! Those guys are stuck in the dark ages, so this is what I do now and it works like a charm ladies! Before you leave, go to a costume shop and get a nun's habit (just the head part will do). Then, dress frumpy and wear the 'hat' part when you get there! I even wear black nurse shoes, a cross, little bible, everything. It's great because you don't have to wear makeup or worry about your hair. I even got discounts on tons of stuff like attractions and even dinner! Works like a charm! No guy DARED pinch my tight little ass!
