Reluctant Solo Traveler

Hello everyone, i am single and would like to take advantage of budget travel offers. Must offers require double occupancy or when a single occupancy option is offered it usually requires a fee that almost amounts to double occupancy fee. Are there any group travel sights for single travelers?, or does anyone have any tips for budgeting solo travelers?

Travel on your own. Do not take a tour or join a group.
Or, look for groups that match you with a room mate. Contiki does that. There are others, but they may not be budget.

Intrepid Travel also pairs same sex travelers.

Grand Circle and OAT sometimes offer trips that wave the single supplement fee.

I wouldn't travel with them if you paid me.

My best tip for solo budget travel is to do it on your own.

I regularly vacation in Hawaii and Mexico on my own and do 1-2 week trips cheaper than any package deal I have ever seen.

Major cities of Europe are also very easy to figure out solo.

Where is it you want to go?

If you're looking for a travel buddy, you could try TravellersPoint's community.

If you do decide to go alone though, suze is right, the big cities are always the best place to start, and you can even make new friends there, or join a local travel community meeting - you can find out when and where they'll be on couchsurfing.com for instance.

My advice is not to primarily focus on the "going solo" part, rather figuring out what your own interests are, where is it you WANT to go.

<does anyone have any tips for budgeting solo travelers?>

Don't do a package deal.
Plan your own trip.
Find a budget hotel or inexpensive apartment.
Eat meals to-go or from the grocery store.
Buy booze/wine/beer for the room, if you drink.
