Recommendations for dining solo in DC?

I'll be in DC June 15-20. Do you have any suggestions for places that are good for solo dining? Also if any of you will be there at that time maybe we can meet for a meal!

topping, because I'll also be in DC - sadly, before Melissa gets there, so no GTG for us, darn the luck!

I would suggest Connecticut Ave. near Dupont. Busy area. If you eat at a table outside, plenty of people watching. I travel solo a bit, and tend to eat outside or at the bar.

A couple of places that I've had a nice time dining solo in DC include the Brickskeller:

And Bistrot du Coin:

Both are in the Dupont Circle area. You can eat at the bar in either, but I give the Bistrot du Coin especially high marks for seating me with a very nice young woman one day when I came for lunch. :)

Hi I live in Northwest DC and there are some very nice restaurants on Connecticut Avenue near the National Zoo. Most in that strip have outdoor tables and are very lively.

I am not sure what type of cuisine you like but there is the Lebanese Taverna, a Thai Restaurant, Italian Pizza Paradiso) and others. They are good, not GREAT but fun.

Lunch is better for someone alone than dinner. When traveling, I ofter have a fabulous lunch and then order in for dinner--unless of course I met some nice people to go out with in a group.

There are also lots of good restaurants in Adams Morgan, primarily 18th st. They tend to be less expensive and diverse, and would be good for solo diners.

I know the orginal poster has already taken the trip, but for future reference, I traveled solo to D.C. and ate dinner most nights in Georgetown. Very vibrant area with a huge variety of small restaurants where it's easy to see how crowded they are with a peek in the window. I always felt very comfortable dining solo there. After dinner, there's plenty of shops and good people watching.

Thanks for the additional info Flamingomonkey! I always know someone headed to DC and I'll be sure to pass on this tip.
