Priceline/Hotwire searches: How to force two beds/room?
 

I tavel with two teens, who like their own beds. They are old enough to have their own hotel room, apart from my hubby and I - we are a family of four.

I know Priceline and Hotwire consider a 'double' room to be one double or queen bed, or two of those beds, or two single beds. You cannot specify or find out ahead of time reliably, even in hotels who do have two beds/room as you may get assigned a single bed.

As long as my boys have their own beds, any size, they are OK!

So...I was thinking that I could ask for two rooms - two adults, three kids, or five adults. Would that force a three bed solution, over two rooms?

What says the Fodors community?

I'm just curious if this has been addressed before.

Noodling around a little - seems Priceline guarantees ONLY rooms for two people so I could conceivably end up with a small double bed for two huge teens. I got off the phone with Hotwire and their hotel rooms will accomodate as many as you say. My question was would they try to fit three people in a king...they wouldn't. So HW may be the way to go.

Yup, I've been all over that site like....[oops I can't post that]. Also Biddingfortravel, but they seem to concentrate on PL. BB is VERY helpful in seeing that a facility has two twin beds but I want to make sure I would get the right configuration.

I don't know if there is any way to get the right configuration but once I bid on 2 rooms at PL and we ended up with an extra person. The hotel was gracious and allowed the 3rd person, with a fee and brought in a cot.

Since there are no garauntees on PL, Hotwire may be the way to go.

If I understand you correctly, you are a party of 4 but need 3 beds (you and your spouse in one bed, each of your kids in their own)? Assuming this is correct, here is my recommendation:

1. Do not use Priceline. With Priceline, you are only guaranteed a room that will accommodate up to 2 people (i.e., you could end up with a single queen sized bed). Wouldn't it be a shame if you booked 2 rooms and got 2 queens, 1 in each. You may be tempted because priceline is so cheap. Don't do it.

2. Use Hotwire. Book 2 rooms, but in the 2nd room, book it for 3 people. Age shouldn't matter. This will 'force' the second room to have 2 beds.

In other words, the only way I know to get a room with 2 beds guaranteed is to book a room for 3 or more people. You can't do this on Priceline but you can on Hotwire.

But your post with the information regarding Hotwire will no doubt be useful for Fodorites with a similar situation.
