Peter Fabian : Best time to plan a world tour

Hello everyone here,
I am Peter Fabian. Glad to be part of Fodors community. Being the best source of information, I need suggestion from the Fodors member for my query. I want to take my wife on world tour. But confuse when should I plan for this trip. Where can I find package deals for world tour? I am looking for best package in affordable prices. Is there anyone who can recommend me the best resources for finding this? If any one have idea do reply..

Thanks
Peter Fabian

Where do you want to go? How long a trip? That will determine the best time of year.

I'm not aware of any RTW packages. I've done three RTWs using AA FF miles for the flights, but I've done all the planning myself. You might find the One World planning pages helpful, also airtreks.com.

You need to do some reading. Try your library or camp out at Barnes & Noble and browse the glossy guidebooks to decide where to go. Use non-glossies like Lonely Planet for logistics. Try Rick Steves "Europe Through the Back Door" and Ed Hasbrouck"s "Practical Nomad" for tips on planning.

I am planning for 1 month trip. I need help to decide for the places. Can you please recommend me some of that?

We're not mind readers. How are we supposed to know what you would like? Where have you been that you enjoyed, and why did you enjoy it? There is no one RTW itinerary that will please everyone, you need to decide yourself where you want to go, then we can maybe help with details.

You want a tour and most people who post on this board do not take tours. Some people do both tours and independent travel.

Since you want an escorted tour and want to travel around the world but do not know where you want to visit I would suggest consulting a travel agent who can book a trip for you.

Of course there are always the amazingly expensive RTW by plane trips run by outfits like National Geographic....

There's time's to plan it yourself, and there's times to call a Travel Agent. I think professional help would be the best idea for your situation.

1 month isn't really long enough for a "world tour".

@suze - those amazingly expensive plane tours usually run about three weeks, I think. But you've hardly arrived somewhere before you have to leave again. For an example see http://www.nationalgeographicexpedit...et-tour/detail
