Passport Help!!!

Hi, I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction! I am flying to Australia on the 6th Of March 2017 and plan to do a 2 Year working holiday then 6 months of travelling around Asia after the 2 years. However my passport expires in June 2019 and I have recently found out you need at least 6 Months left on your passport to enter most of the countries in Asia I plan to travel to. I was hoping I could just quickly get a new passport before I went and the problem would be solved but then I found out my Visa (for Australia) is linked to my current passport and is non-transferrable so i very much doubt Australia will let me in with a visa linked to an expired passport. I was wondering if anyone else has encoutered this situation or has any ideas on the best way to sort this issue out! any help would be much appreciated, Thankyou in Advance. Mark

Several possibilities:

- Contact Australian consulate and ask if a new passport accompanied by your old passport containing the visa will do. With some country's visas that expire past the date of the passport's expiration, that's allowed.

- Renew your passport in Australia before your departure at a consulate or the embassy of your country. On departure, show your old passport as well.

- After Australia, go to a country first that will allow you to enter, stay long enough to renew your passport there. "Losing" it can facilitate a replacement.

Or, choose countries that don't have the 6 months provision.

You haven't mentioned what country's passport you hold. I'd forget the "losing" part in the current climate if you're American.

Fwiw I traveled with 2 passports at a time : one expired with only a visa that was still valid and my new passport.
Long time ago. But who knows.

The American Embassy in Australia should be able to help you get a new passport while you are there.

Do we know that the OP is American? Use of the phrase "working holiday" suggests he isn't. A mystery.

As alluded to above, providing details of your citizenship /passport would be helpful.

If you do decide to change your passport (which I strongly advise you to do for travelling around Asia), I am pretty sure you can change your Aussie visa to your new passport either by completing a form and sending it in or, if you applied online just go to your immi account and change it. https://www.border.gov.au/Lega/Lega/...ssport-details

If, by chance, you have a UK passport, you can get a new passport, usually within a few weeks by post or the same day by booking and appointment at one of the UKPA office.

The problem in travelling around Asia is not so much the various immigration people, who generally don't usually care that much, it more the airlines who most likely just won't let you board a plane without the correct passport
